Federal rules for fracking on public lands, set to be released in a few weeks, may serve as a model for states to get companies to disclose the chemicals used in the drilling process, an Obama administration official said.
The proposed federal standards will be compatible with rules already in place in states such as Wyoming and Texas, and will allow limited exemptions for “legitimate trade secrets,” David Hayes, the deputy Interior secretary, said today.
“What we expect is that the momentum that you already see in states for disclosure will be reinforced by what we do,” Hayes said in an interview at the Washington office of Bloomberg News. “Most folks would like to see an across-the-board approach to deal with these issues.”

As natural gas development has pushed into populated areas, gas drillers have consistently disclosed to shareholders and potential investors daunting lists of possible mishaps, including leaks, spills, explosions, bodily injury, limited insurance coverage and death.

"After Julie and Craig Sautner leased their land to Houston- based Cabot Oil and Gas Corp., the company's improper drilling contaminated their water. Julie Sautner stands next to a vent that allows natural gas to escape from their water well so their home will not explode."
That is not good, but more to the point is, putting a risk to the water supply!

Cadmium, Arsenic, Asbestos... all 187 of the test they could be doing.

"Underscoring the risks to drinking water supplies of hydraulic fracturing, three water samples collected from private wells following a blowout at a Chesapeake Energy Corp. natural gas drilling site in northeast Pennsylvania have been found to be contaminated, the federal Environmental Protection Agency." said today.

Added to this mess, is the fact of mining. The leftovers Fly ash, Coal ash.
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fly_ash ) There is your Arsenic right there & to think
your city is more likely to not test for it!
And for the Republicans saying to "tell the EPA to slow down." I don't think so!
To everyone you have power, I would call your city & ask them to test the drinking water better. It's your water! Water is Sacred!
