Being married to an addictions counselor, I was already aware, but don't take my word for it....I know lots of mj smokers who won't touch booze at all.

From the study...

A study in the August edition of The Journal of School Health finds that the generations old theory of a “gateway drug” effect is in fact accurate, but shifts the blame for escalating substance abuse away from marijuana and onto the most pervasive and socially accepted drug in American life: alcohol.

Using a nationally representative sample from the University of Michigan’s annual Monitoring the Future survey, the study blasts holes in drug war orthodoxy wide enough to drive a truck through, definitively proving that marijuana use is not the primary indicator of whether a person will move on to more dangerous substances.

    • That "gateway" term is antiquated plus when I attended methadone clinics,
(all corrupt by the way), the only ideology they had correct was "everyone is
different." But the liquor issue being legal, damaging people's lives, livers, and destroying others from 'altered states' behind the wheel, makes my blood boil.
YES, no one ever died from cannabis sativa use, especially when not mixing it with anything else.
One becomes very passive and thinks less than one-dimensional. The
ridiculous 'drug wars' will never be won, while thousands of innocent people die due to this ongoing, incessant ramage.
At least decriminalize marijuana in States where legislation is constipated - the Pacific Northwest and Alaska have wonderful ways where citizens can carry specific amounts and smoke without having to be treated as a lunatic fringe.
Medical marijuana is proof that chemo patients, people with glaucoma, etc. have benefited from being able to utilize this Innocent Herb.
