Food For Thought

Brainstorm
In 2005 Time magazine named Peter Singer one of the world's 100 most influential people. The New Yorker claims: "Peter Singer may be the most controversial philosopher alive, he is certianly among the most influential." I had the chance to sit down with Mr. Singer after reading his book "The Way We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter."
Little did I know the way it would influence me and change the way I thought about food.

    • Gentlly presented piece about horrifyingly violent issues. Very good documentary filmmaking. I learned from the approach.

The sequel though, is an investigation of Peter's incorrect assumption that salvery is something "We do not do anymore." Sadly, it is huge.

    • It's very clear and well-presented. I would probably opt for shorter, since it is a one-person interview, but you really give lots of good info.

    • such an important story. These are many of the reasons why I am a vegetarian. I think its important for everyone to know where their food comes from, and, armed with that knowledge, they can make informed decisions about what they eat. Thank you for making this short form film to disseminate this information. I really hope to see it on Current. ::greenlight::

    • I think this is an excellent piece on a very important subject. There are so many people out there who don't realize the effects their food choices have on the environment.

    • Excellent points made. Extremely important subject that needs to be addressed. Pod seemed a bit like an advertisement for his books towards the end. Was wondering if he used recyled paper to produced his books?

    • I believe it is important to remember that we live in a relatively barbaric society. Unless that changes, what we do to animals won't. My GL!

    • I agree with the comments below. The message is important and it is a good perspective.

It is a little long, but I can’t suggest where to cut it. What struck me most was that our food chain is no longer natural.

The idea of moving away from factory farming is such an important issue, that it’s worth pushing forward.

This gives me pause, and makes me rethink how I will shop next week.

      Well done.

      GL from me.

Please click on my head and check out my latest pod, “small town climate change”

      Thanks.

    • Great information. Might be too long to keep the attention of some viewers. However, this is a critical story that unfortunately mainstream media refuses to address (could it be that there is a tie between their profits and the advertising revenue coming from companies providing these products)?

Your video gives the viewer real world implications to help inform us of where our food comes from and the consequences of buying food from companies that only care about one thing...profit...

There are a lot of great companies now that supply food products in a sustainable, environmental and humane fashion. Our choice in products does matter. I hope your video will encourage others to vote with their dollar and support companies that are making a positive difference. GL

    • i like singer's views on philanthropy as well, very interesting. I wonder whether Singer will now start framing the issue much more around climate change (which he briefly mentioned here) rather than cruelty, given the sort of coverage climate change is getting which will only be going up. i agree with the comments about it being shorter - and perhaps another thought would have been to interview some activists or people that went to his book readings to get another flavour in there and break up his voice which is pretty monotonous throughout. i was hoping that he would praise organics in the end, it gave some much-needed hope of progress, as it was all very sad up to then. if it were shorter that would have come sooner, which I think would have been good. That all said, really well done. GL from me. Eleni - check out my pod 'right to protest' if you have a sec.

    • Enlightening. A bit long winded, but we need to know this info to make our own choices. I gave it a GL because this information needs to reach the masses who may not know.
