Handmade Television

canofmeatfilm
Four Things were happening independantly while making this video;
1. I was living down the street from a box factory.
2. I was experimenting with video and music editing software
3. I was a folk art sculptor.
4. I was eating a lot of great meals.
Well maybe the fourth thing doen't apply.
Watch once.

Watch again.

    • Brilliantly arrogant. Sometimes arrogance raises mankind to a higher level, other times it keeps us all puppets. Break the puppet strings! Wean off the puppet Masters who make our lives humdrum! Bring on the GM flying cars, let everybody pull out of the driveways and choose to turn left, choose to turn right, or choose to go STRAIGHT UP.

Puppet Masters keep it from us right now.

    • Congrats for taking this one to the tube. No doubt your concept of a hand-made device fits perfectly with what Current TV is about. Keep up the good work!

    • So I was talking to my mother, and the conversation reminded me of something my Grandfather, much beloved, used to say to me. He'd say David, "You must be gracious. If someone holds a door open for you, then say thank you." So I just want to do what my grandfather told me, from the roots, say thank you, to every one out there in the world community who makes this whole precept even exist. This entity, this being, this network Current Tv, is an idea that exists at just the right time, Now. Global Media that hollersback at the media and the media audience, and reinvents the idea of what a viewer can do. From the roots. This is wonderful, yes this is powerful, yes this is now, yes... and we are doing it, we are what makes it happen, you and I...and all the you's and I's. So, thank you to Current..., for holding open the door to and letting us all pour in.

      Respect,

    • Thank you for taking the time to look at my piece and for the helpful feedback. It is most definitely inspired by the L'asceaux paintings. Hope you enjoyed my other spot as well.
I am a sucker for stop motion and this is no exception. Although it may run a little longer than what Current would allow, it's still quite unique and endearing in sound design and movement. Bravo and GL.

    • Nice cutting, you timed the shots well with the music, and I like that you gave certain shots more time. I would like to see the tight shot of the current conveyer slowed down, like at 48fps

Please check out my VCam for T-Mobile, and let me know what you think.

    • Friends,

Postmodernism it is. Thanks for the thoughtful commentary. Back in the top ten, with my feet on the ground. As Jackie Gleason would say, "How sweet it is."

Talbott-I compress my files to 640x480 at 30 f.p.s. into an MP4. It took me alot of trial and error to get this to work, but I finally found a program call AVS video converter, It's available online for under $60 and it does a pretty good job. I've heard and understand that Sorenson Squeeze is the best compression on the market, but that can run you $150 + even on eBay. Thanks for the GL and good luck.

Tiago, man your work is awesome, I can see the amount of work that goes in to what you do. This piece is not stop frame. It moves by itself with a hand crank. I've been experimenting with hand crank, hand mades for a while...it's interesting to see people interacting with, and 'playing' the sculpture, I've had all kinds of people really connect with the work in this way. I'm looking into buying a welding machine so more hand cranked hand mades will be on the way.
The wall behind the sculpture is yellow so the tint of the image may looks strange. I've got a color correction option on premiere elements but I haven't found it to look that natural. I did play with the brightness control a little to get the wide shots to match up with the close ups...
      Thanks for the greenlight.

So, thank you gentlemen, and good afternoon,
      -David Isakson

    • Postmodernism gone wild. We're as natural as a monkey bangin a football. Moral of the story: keep your feet on the ground. Great one.
