    • Really nice idea, I agree with one of the other comments that we should have seen the old guy without the cream and perhaps some slight of hand filmaking could have done away with the dissolve in the middle (ie have the old guy duck out of shot, replace with young guy then tilt down the camera to see the young guy washing his face and stand up) Do that and it's a definite GL

    • i love the opening. the green is very strong. nice frame. good, simple concept.
i would, however, say that the font and color of the text seemed to clash with the feeling of "young."
if i was to suggest anything, it would be to go with a sans-serif font in a more neutral color, or carry the strong green through.

let me know what you think of my vcam, come clean.

    • This is very cool. I thought the art direction was excellent, nice greens and golds. Cool concept, and good acting (natural and not overdone). I wonder if there might have been more video, resolving some of the text issues at the end, but a cool commercial and good work.

    • Thanks for the GL Chris. Hey have you thought about re-doing that audio? Should be super easy to do since you only have to dub one "wow' and equalize the faucet.

    • cute, but I think you have to think about the consumer. I think there needs to be more about how the product could help people. Good idea though.

    • It's a little hard to get, because the old guys face is obscured. Maybe you need an establishing shot of him, closer, and the youthful result, closer.

The audio levels are too hot.

Good idea, but tighten it up, maybe lose the music and work with natural sound to make the transformation seem more natural.

    • GL...nicely done. Quite a few good constructive comments here.
3 things to re-emphasize: needs a touch more beginning, fix the sound at the end, and tweak the graphic copy instead of using it for time filler.

    • Concept is definitely right on. I just think you could have spent longer on the old man part. Like maybe having him lather up, look in the mirror and then start shaving. Although that would be misleading for the product.

    • I agree with a lot of the comments below. I dig the concept heavily, but I would have liked to have seen a stronger difference between the young and old man. Possibly more time to show his old face without the shave cream to really emphasize that contrast when he emerges new.

People always give me this suggestion too, and so I would try the edit without music. It might seem odd, and by no means is THE way to go, but sometimes it really helps the material shine through more clearly.

Overall, inventive idea, good production, and with just a few tweaks I think it's ready for television land. Good form.

    • It's a solid concept for an advertisement. I wish you had done more with the inter-title graphics. I mean, there's nothing wrong with them. But they're not exciting. Every second of a commercial is supposed to catch and hold a viewers attention, and there has to be a way to do that with these intertitles. Whether it be giving them motion, adding additional visuals to accompany them, or some other technique.

    • Thanks for greenlighting my "Play in a Day" pod - really glad you liked it. Can i be really cheeky and ask you to greenlight it on the UK site too?

      it's here: link

i've managed to get to number 12 on the UK site, but i really really want to make it into the top 10 so that hopefully the current staff will notice the pod...!

nice VCAM by the way - a couple of issues with audio, but on the whole really good.

I like the spot though, and think you did a good job.
Only thing I didn't get was the Spanish guitar. It sounds great, but it doesn't fit the theme of the spot for me.

    • Really great concept and well executed. A couple of technical suggestions.

Use a tripod for this type of shot. Holding the same angle adds to the illusion. Have your actor hold positiont when he bends down and get a lock off. Some cameras such as a Sony PD150 will allow you to overlap your current view with the last frame on tape. This can allow youto get a near perfect lineup. Then you have your actor resume the action. In edit you can cut out the extra frames so that it looks like one continuous motion without the need for the cross fade. If you can't get a good frame lineup then have your subject drop out of frame and the younger reenters. If the action is smooth it should create the illusion without drawing attention ti the switch. Great effort though. GL

Also needs attention to audio balancing.

      Your guitar work? Not bad.

    • nice idea, liked it, only thing i would say is, when the clip changed you could notice the sound of the water change too, maybe could have kept the original sound running underneith the second clip. but still it was nice.

feel free to check out my pod here link

    • Hia,
just came across your pod as I did not know there were 2 voting possibilities and different scores for US and UK!

Anyways, well done. Hope the advertising people will get the joke and not think it would be unfair claims towards the competition.
Maybe its different here in Britain than in USA.

    • Hmmm....I guess I was too subtle. Ease up on the kid. He is clearly new to using video equipment. But I do agree. GL stuff that isnt ready for T.V. hurts the overall usefulness of our votes.

    • Thats a good idea, but by having a load of text at the end, you lose the audiences interest. I reckon that the text should come in the middle over CA's of shaving, as trevorw says, and then end on the shot of the guy now miraculously young. I want the story to carry on for the whole advert.

    • great story/concept. However, two shots with a simple cross fade? too amature. and too predictable. how about having cut aways with close ups the the shaving, rinsing of the razor, using the actual product (it's called product placement), then when you go from old guy to cut aways, to young guy, you've got a more dramatic transformation. also, change his outfit. having a bold colored shirt against a plain bathroom will make the shirt rememberable. then, when he changes to the young guy, he'll have the same, recognizable shirt and it makes the story catch quicker.

    • you've got a lot of posts, but one thing i would suggest is recording the sound at a higher quality. do the running water separately from his actual actions. sound improves everything. the little things matter. otherwise, keep plugging.

    • Funny concept, with the younger guy appearing in the end. As far as overall effect I would say that you should improve the typography on the slides, something more stylish. And it may just be the quality of the video but it seems as though the sound is overmodulated. But really great work.

    • Nice concept, very simple, and well done...my only thought is that the transition could have been more subtle...maybe he leans out of frame, then jumpcut to the younger guy leaning back into frame...just a thought.

Let me know what you think of my Sony VCAM...thanks!
