Thank you journalist, Mara Schiavocampo; Heather Eves, BCTF; and Claudine Andre, Lola Ya Bonobo sanctuary for making this video and bringing attention to one of the leading threats to bonobos.
The Bonobo Conservation Initiative (BCI) and one of its Congolese partners, the Centre de Recherche en Ecologie et Foresterie (CREF) rescued the orphaned bonobo, Waola, featured in this video. Waola lost her hand in a hunter's snare. CREF and BCI rescued Waola at Monieka, just east of Mbandaka on the Tshuapa River and delivered her to the Lola Ya Bonobo sanctuary.
BCI works both at the grassroots level, engaging Congolese communities to protect bonobos and the rainforest, and with the DRC government and international partners to create new protected areas and enforce laws against hunting bonobos and other endangered species.

Great piece! My only comment is to maybe sort out the enginre noise in the plane clip or use subtitles. I didn't catch what she said.

Great Pod! Green Light what can we do? educate? This is tradition and culture but I agree nature can just do it anymore!!! Should be on TV

this pod was put together great. thanks for showing this problem that otherwize would have stayed unknown. personally i think that the hunters are the lesser of the two evils, logging and deforestation being the other.

Great work! I liked everything about this one, and I saw "dinner plans" through the citizens of Congo's eyes! Much different than going to the grocery store.

This is such an important subject.
I'm a big fan of the Canadian, Dr. Kerry Bowman, who raises awareness about this subject.
Everyone should watch this. Well done.
