The Listening Project Pod

dominichowes
This Pod is an excerpt from the new feature documentary The Listening Project, a captivating cinematic journey around the world in search of the meaning of America. We follow four unique Americans through fourteen countries in each place asking, "what do you think of America?" In beautifully-photographed locales, we encounter fascinating and diverse characters who reveal the impact of the U.S. on their lives and their perspectives on America's responsibility to the rest of the world. The ultimate result is an exploration of the meaning of citizenship in a globalized world. www.thelisteningprojectfilm.com

    • i loved this work - as one who has been around a bit i can tell you that most people in other countries aren't angry with Americans...They are angry at America...

Our people aren't being blamed - our government and it's foreign policy are the problem. This is now a global economy and a global community. We, as a country, need to grasp this concept and see that we look to our brothers and sisters abroad for support AND guidance...The concept of the "ignorant american" is pretty well deserved in most respects...

Most Americans don't know about the way other people live and they don't care...I was guilty of the same until a few years ago...My eyes have opened and i wake every morning with the hope that others will soon see this as well.

Great job guys! We, as a country, as a people, as Americans - need to see the facts about how the world sees us and how we, in turn see the world...

Divided we stand, together we fall...

    • As one of the crew, we went in as open minded as we could. The people we spoke with were very specific about separating the Amercian people as individuals from our government. They know they are not the same. I think we did a pretty nuanced job of showing the difference.

    • I am absolutely fascinated by the concept of this piece. In fact, I'm jealous I didn't think of it myself. What a creative way to show Americans how the world truly sees us. Wonderful work! How can I watch the full documentary?

    • I saw the full length film. I was not really suprised to find out the the folks interviewed distrusted the American government. I was pleased to hear that most of the interviewees would not hold that against me personally. Great job, Rikshaw!!

    • Rawbird--while I didnt go along with these producers personally to every stop--you've been to other countries--I think you can attest to the accuracy of what these people found on their listening tour?

I would have thought the same thing as your friend, had I not been out of the country and heard people talking like this. What I wonderd, and I asked at a screening of the full version of this documentary is where do these ideas start from?

With the exception of someone getting a good ol' US of A made bomb dropped on their house--if they were never TOLD about America how would they KNOW we were the cause of so many THEIR problems?

Its from this basis that I also think opinion of the US could changed dramatically and quickly--to get worse, but also to quickly get better.

In any case--whats so great about this piece is that there isnt a person who's seen it that I've been near that hasnt started talking about it--that's exactly the type of thing we're looking for in this election call out--pods that start conversations.

    • Phenomenal, what a skill in finding gorgeous women and brilliant/gorgeous women. Superb work making a documentary being a premise to chat-up shorty. I don't know if Current's payment can defer your five continent travel but they damn well should buy it.

My friend, goblinmerchant, however is suspicious. He feels that the whole thing is staged and guided. The informants were directed towards a liberal bias against the current US regime. This isn't good journalism but sure is entertaining.
