Meds & Food For Kids: Haiti

robhill_productions
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with over 80% of it’s population living below the poverty on less than 1$ a day. Childhood mortality in Haiti is at a staggering rate, 129 of every 1,000 Haitian children die before their fifth birthday. Malnutrition has crippled 50% of Haitian children under the age of five. In this pod cast the non-profit organization Meds & Food for Kids fight back against malnutrition through use of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), a combination of roasted peanuts, powered milk, vegetable oil, sugar and vitamins. This peanut based RUTF brings malnourished children back from the brink of death.
