Balete Drive is a very famous street in Manila known to be haunted by a white lady... (that is a lady in white, not a Caucasian lady) who is known to terrorize cab drivers. Allegedly sometime in the 1950s a woman was picked up by a cab along Balete Drive and then raped and murdered by the driver. So we visited Balete Drive at midnight during a full moon. And two people comment on their encounters with the aswang, a sort of ghoul/vampire creature known for its taste for human flesh, particularly unborn babies.
Toward the end of the film a hissing sound is caught on tape. It is a sound heard when there is supposed to be an aswang near. During filming neither I nor anyone else heard the hissing sound. It would be later that night when I was reviewing the tape that I heard it (and shrugged it off as just noise) and a couple days later before the connection was made to the aswang hissing sound.

I've encountered aswangs back in our province in south cotabato too. I don't know how to prove it but there is no way a really really big cat can jump from nowhere to a roof of our neighbor. The day before, our neighbor who is three months pregnant told us that every night they will hear that something is on the roof. They were hinting that an aswang might be the culprit. That night, my boardmates and me decided to watch out since we have a clear view of our neighbors roof anyway. Around 10:45 pm, we heard a soft thud on our neighbors roof. And to our amazement we saw a big black cat walking on the roof. The cat was like 1 1/2 feet tall and skinny.. We were whispering frantically to each other when the cat suddenly looked at us liked it heard us and then it was gone. After an hour, our excitement has abated and we were about to go to sleep when we heard soft footfalls on our roof, then to our horror it started to scratch on our roof, like long slow scratches... we have no trees around the house to mistake it as a branch just scraping the roof. Thank God, we have GI sheet as a roof... This is only one of my encounters of aswang...
