Live from Jail

Breakthrough
Breakthrough went "live from jail" and interviewed several long time permanent U.S residents who face possible deportation because of unfair 1996 immigration laws. The three we interviewed will most likely be sent back to countries they haven't seen since they were very young. As one says, "this is a nightmare that I've not been able to wake up from."

    • this is truly a nightmare and increasingly sounds like it can happen to anyone. Why are there so many stores like this in the USA? it seems like just about anyone can be detained these days, once in the system, pressure and promises confuse and when youre presented with an ultimatium like 'plead guilty, even if you aint done anything, we'll get you out of here' what can you do? these people's lives are totally ruined

      great pod

    • Please watch the video and listen to the facts. He was in the US legally.

The punishment should also fit the crime. Because of the laws, he had mandatory detention and deportation regardless of his individual circumstances.

    • They should be deported they were here illegally and they were all convicted of crimes, felonies no less. How is this some kind of injustice? I realize it is going to suck for all of them but they had a choice they didn't have to break the law.

They are all in this country legally man!
Besides, what is this mentality that people from other countries are lesser human beings? They were busted and tried for crimes YEARS ago that carried no prison sentences and now they got scooped up and carted away?
Also, what happened to becoming naturalized citizens?

If possible, fixing the typo in the first credits and getting rid of that buzz on the audio would be less distracting. Otherwise, really great pod.

this is an injustice because some of these people came this country as babies and this is all they know since when does being an immigrant or unamerican make u less human? that one woman was an accountant been here for like 43 years!immigrants are what this counrty was built from the sooner people realize this they can realize the true colors of our 'great' country.
