    • Give me a break...the prospective groom said in Face Book "I don't want children." He is also proud to be a redneck and wanted to shoot you up...Boy, they sure cleaned him up for the convention. This woman is an embarassment for most thinking, educated women, and hopefully women will start thinking about this swashbuckling trophy/sport hunter who will take away women's right to choose their own reproductive future. Yeah, she'll reform government...for the worse. God forbid the poor animals.

    • In my particular life experience, all the people who got married young - parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles - stayed married for decades - my Grandparents were in their teens, they were married for 66 years, my parents were married as teens and were married for 50 years before they passed away. My aunts and uncles have the same kind of track record and all these people were in their teens when they married - some of those may have been "shotgun" weddings if you use that to mean "baby on the way". These were much stronger marriages than the flimsy ones that are rife today.
I haven't noticed any evidence of these young people being "forced" to marry. (Please supply that and I'll examine the evidence.)

In today's society, there is no stigma or shame in being pregnant and unmarried, it's practically celebrated. And that is the biggest shame of all...

Uh, according to your account, she was parthenogenic. Check your dates, dude.

Oh, I see, you're talking about Barack's birthdate, not the father's.

In any case, this isn't about whether anyone is a slut or not, it's about whether early marriages, particularly shotgun ones, promote strong families. Your thoughts?

I really have to agree with Dan on this one. Obama's mothers marriage to his father is an absolutely perfect example of what this story is all about. His father left when he was 2 and his parents were divorced shortly there after. Their getting married simply based on her pregnancy did not build a strong family.

On the other hand, being raised and loved by his Grandparents as surrogate mother and father did provide him with a strong family unit from which he thrived and grew from.

You have to ask yourself, with her mother in politics, when their marriage does disintegrate, which statistics have proven to be the likely end result, will Sarah be there for Bristol and her new child?

I really don't think that will be the case.

    • Hi,

I don't know which is the more compelling definition of cognitive dissonance: the pretzels these guys twist themselves into trying to answer this question; or simply "hip-hop Republican blogger." For all of Armstrong Williams' deficiencies elsewhere, at least he apparently hasn't drunk the Kool-Aid on this issue.

Why haven't other outlets asked this question? Good story -- gets my thumb's-up.

Please check out my pod, THE PALIN PROJECT, and comment, if you wish. Thanks!
