To School...

paultreacy
A short, hectic, stop motion freecording of me and my sons going to school.
Shot with a Nikon D200 and spliced together in iMovie 08.
If this piece makes it to TV it can be prepped for HD.
Music by Matt Messina used with permission.

    • I appreciate your comment. It is what it is. Take it or leave it. I make no claims whatsoever only that I was compelled to make a lot of photographs real fast and I liked how it came together and decided I'd show it. Period. Sure, anyone can do it. But I did and here it is.
Maybe this will evolve into something else over time. I have no idea. Maybe it'll remain a one off. We'll see, I guess. Let's move on, shall we?

    • I'm not sure what this is doing. Big deal, we all take our kids to school, what makes your commute so darn interesting? I think to get a green light, it should have some significant angle. Now, if this was for a Nikon VCAM, I would say GREENLIGHT! I get it, it is human and it shows that with their product you can capture every moment. So, only in the context of trying to sell Nikon does this have any real value, to me and I would guess 80% of the world. I'm sure most people with a camera and an ounce of creativity have played around with time and space like your piece does.

I would encourage you to dig deeper in to your projects and look for a greater connection to all of humanity, and greater is sometimes simple. So, thanks for letting me see your kids go to school. Does anybody want to see me drop my 5 year old off to school too? If it gets you so darn excited I'll have to do that...I might even, have to shoot it with a car mount and get all Guy Richie with it!

    • It's not so bad. You just need to learn to feed off their exuberance and energy. Otherwise you'll go nuts. Their energy can be infectious if you want it to be. I need it to energize myself. If you can appreciate the world from their perspective, even just for a few minutes, you can get quite a buzz. That's what it's all about really. That's what this little film's about. Instead of feeling hassled, one can be fueled by youngsters' intensity and it can set you up nicely for the day ahead. Along with some strong coffee, of course.
Thanks folks. Now, if only we can get lots more people to greenlight this thing....

    • Thanks everybody for your support. Hugely appreciated.

We've got quite a race going on here for the number one spot.

I'm looking forward to making more stop motion films like this one trying to capture that youthful, boundless energy that can so exhaust us grown ups.

    • Great!
For any parent who has rushed their kid to school this captures the essence of the experience - the parent is totally feeling totally harassed while the kid is on kid time all the way.

    • Thanks jonbrooks. I think you're right. I've never done anything like this before and it was a spur of the moment reaction to the hecticness of getting youngsters to school on time. The ending is not quite resolved either but I would have gotten into a situation requiring permissions and that may have hindered the spontaneity some.

There's more to come though and I hope I'll improve.

    • Thanks, markragunton. Music is always the tricky bit for me. I really need to broaden my horizons on the musical front as regards what's available out there.

    • Thanks to everyone who watched this little film. It's nice that something so mundane as bringing youngsters to school can be made into a sort of film that people enjoy.

I'm going to do more of these. More films looking at life's mundanities.
