How do you prevent gasoline from seeping into the groundwater?

Firefighters in The Colony, Texas, are seen here cleaning up fuel that drained into the alley when the fuel tank on an SUV ruptured. They are aided in their cleanup by a biodegradable antimicrobial agent that neutralizes the fuel by breaking up the hydrocarbon's molecular chain, before it can enter the city's drainage system. This prevents the toxic fuel from seeping into the groundwater.
