Short microdoc by Rory Wilmer without commentary looking at the Expo 58 Praha Restaurant.
The Czechoslovakian presentation at the prestigious exhibition Expo 58 in Brussels opened in April 1958, came as a big surprise. A country that hadnt yet fully recovered from the terror of Stalins era, introduced a massive quantity of art, industrial items and ideas.
The restaurant, designed by architects Frantisek Cubr, Josef Hruby and Zdenek Pokorny, became a part of the Czechoslovak Exhibition Pavilion at the Worlds Fair Expo 1958. The first-prize winner restaurant was transported to Prague in 1960 and it started operating in Letenske Sady in 1961. A remarkable fact is that the restaurant was built above baroque cellars with a cross vault from the 17th century.
