Vassil Bebelekov and Mark Levy show how the Bulgarian bagpipes are just another stop on the musical food chain.
Every year, the Eastern European Folklife Center hosts an unusual community of Americans who drag their tubas, doumbeks and clarinets into the forest to study Balkan music and dance. At the camp, a wild mix of ancient Balkan culture and young Americans billows into an all-day all-night multi-cultural party.
In this clip, two old friends -- the founder of the camp and a Bulgarian teacher -- give us a tour of the gaida, a Bulgarian musical instrument born from a goat.
