Me and My Disabled Child - Parent Stories: Jamie

contactafamily
Contact a Family called on parents to tell their story of raising a disabled child holding national competition aiming to highlight the many issues they face on a day-to-day basis.

We had an overwhelming response from parents sharing their stories and we are pleased to announce that we have picked 'Jamie' as one of our runner up prize winners!

'Jamie' tells the story of a family and their young child who has Down Syndrome.

    • The beginning is quite inspiring and Jamie made me smile. I'm aware that raising a disabled child is a huge challenge, but shouldn't his 'misdeeds' be private? For any child being paraded in public with what they've done wrong is quite embarrassing, showing of a disabled child like that is quite disrespectful to him.

It is great to give families with disabled children a platform to share their stories, and I would have loved to give it my vote. But the "naughty step" just made me cringe. I'm not commenting on parenting methods here, but about being paraded in public with them.
