First International Tamil Referendum.
Ballots & Interviews
London. UK

This weekend witnessed the worldwide Tamil diaspora taking part in a ground breaking attempt to unite their peoples in democratic vote.

Since 1976 the Tamil population of Sri Lanka have been in vicious war with their Senegalese neighbours, and after 3 decades of warfare and bloodshed are now turning towards a non-violent regime in order to stabilize their community and secure a future for coming generations.
This has been a long time coming, and as for other dispossessed communities like the Tibetans, the question over spiritual, cultural identity and needing to belong has transcended to an intellectual plane, with intention to unite families once more on ancestral land - free from blood shed and fear.
This is not a one-sided argument by any means, but is a peace branch held out for all to see that change must come - preferably through ballots not guns.

Interviews include Conservative Mp Paul Shea, representatives from ACT NOW and the London Tamil Community.

Results from this referendum were announced at The Park Lane Hotel, London and were overwhelmingly in favour of a separate state of Tamil Eelam - How this challenge will be received by the United nations and the wider Sri Lankan community remains to be seen.

Thank you to all those who assisted in the making of this short film and all those who continue efforts towards a world where we can expect to live without fear, human disappearances or slaughter of our families.
