EMI Music Pub, Current TV Ink Deal

November 13, 2006

By Susan Butler, N.Y.

EMI Music Publishing has struck a deal with Current TV, the cable and satellite network founded by former vice president Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, to integrate EMI's repertoire with the network's programming.

Current TV incorporates content generated by its viewers into about one-third of its broadcasts. Under the deal revealed today (Nov. 13), the network will be able to access EMI's songs for its programming.

"By using our programming to break out new and established artists from the EMI Music Publishing catalog, we want to further connect with our viewers by becoming a resource that introduces them to new music while also enjoying access to classics," says David Neuman, Current's president of programming.

Specific terms of the deal were not made public. In September, Current also made a deal with APM Music, a joint venture of EMI and BMG Music Publishing, to give the network's viewer contributors access to its catalogs to score their own TV segments.

"Current has a unique connection with our audience, who see music as a way to authentically connect with other people in their generation," says Roger Faxon, president/co-CEO of EMI Music Publishing. "For this reason, EMI sees the network as a new and relevant way to connect our artists with music listeners."
