Current TV has brokered its first video-on-demand deal, offering Current on Demand to digital subscribers in Time Warner Cable’s Los Angeles footprint.
Time Warner’s newly acquired Adelphia systems in the area will pick up Current’s VOD package by the end of the year.
Designed to complement the linear network, Current on Demand content is divided into three categories: Best of Current, a showcase of the network’s most-popular user-generated clips; Current L.A., a stockpile of content pertaining to the area and its younger inhabitants; and SuperNews, which culls animated fare from the network’s comedy series of the same name.
Two ancillary categories offer insight into the network itself and how users can submit their own content to Current.
Launched in August 2005, Current is the brainchild of former Vice President Al Gore and entrpreneur Joel Hyatt. About 30 percent of the content carried by the network is viewer-generated.
