Keep Your Cell Phone Current

July 11, 2006

Current TV is collecting video from cell phones for its Current Mobile initiative.

The network said Current Mobile will become a regular feature on its schedule.

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications will sponsor Current Mobile.

Current said viewers who shoot video on their mobile phones can upload them online (www.current.tv/mobile). Any mobile upload that goes on-air will net its contributor $100 each. When the pieces air on the network, they will be framed inside a graphic that represents a cell-phone display, branded with the Sony Ericsson logo.

“For an increasing number of people, the cell phone is not only the preferred communication medium, but the preferred way to consume video content and to shoot it, as well,” Current president of programming David Neuman said in a prepared statement. “It’s highly portable and easy to use when life’s most interesting or surprising moments need to be captured. We look to transform those who use mobile devices for fun into paid ‘phonojournalists.’”
