Current TV Sets World AIDS Day Fare

November 29, 2005

Current TV said about 25% of its programming from Tuesday through World AIDS Day Thursday will be AIDS-related.

The network said its special programming will include pod segments on AIDS facts; the AIDS epidemic in the Kibera Slums in Nairobi; a "Current Flashback" with footage of Ervin "Magic" Johnson announcing that he had HIV; other stories of those coping with the disease; information about a "Bid 2 Beat AIDS" auction; and coverage of World AIDS Day-related events taking place across the United States.

Current added that celebrity guest hosts will support the network throughout the programming, including Rev. Run, Dwele, Kip Pardue, Lisa Edelstein and Rent cast members Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, Tracie Thoms and Wilson Heredia.

"Our mandate is to reach young people with issues that impact their lives and, integral to that, Current has a commitment to educate our audience about AIDS and HIV, which, for over two decades, has created a sea change in how humans interact with each other, and which continues to be a danger in the United States, as well as in such devastated regions as sub-Saharan Africa," Current president of programming David Neuman said in a prepared statement
