a violent impact created the earth moon system and as the molten moon cooled, a large buldge was pulled tward the earth's gravity. that buldge keeps the moon from spinning; locked in place by gravity. that is the reason for the dark side, actually it is'nt dark it just never faces earth. the moon's 28ish day orbit is both it's day and year. i love this stuff.

That's a bit of a Misnomer, as an object that doesn't spin that is rotating about another object while rotating around a source of light other than that first object has no darkside.
The only REAL darkside on the moon is the deeper craters.
