Part of an eyeball has been grown in a lab, paving the way for ‘DIY transplants’ that would offer hope to millions of blind people. The retina – a light-sensitive ‘film’ crucial to vision – was produced from scratch in what experts describe as an ‘astounding’ achievement.

    • Wow, this is pretty amazing.

I saw a show about scientists growing skin tissue in a mold that was shaped like an ear that could then be surgically attached to the patient and the beauty of it was that they used the patients own cells to start the growth so they wouldn't need a lifetime of the sometimes harmful anti-rejection drugs.

They also grew muscle tissue and transplanted it into the thigh of a solder who had a severe leg wound and the muscle was growing (and filling in what was a big hole) as he worked out on his leg.

I can't recall all the organs and stuff they were working on but it was really amazing.
In the not too distant future they're saying that if you needed a new heart or other organ they'd grow one from your own tissue/cells and then do a transplant.

Now if they'd just get going on a cure for cancer.......or diabetes etc.
I sometimes wonder if they don't want to cure certain things..... after all.....there's no money to be made if it was easy to restore ones health.
They do however make a lot from drugs, chemo drugs, diabetes stuff, heart medications etc.
