Squidgy and Poo Face are some of the preferred terms of endearment for UK lovers. Apparently most people sidestep the traditional "baby" and "cupcake" names when whispering sweet nothings into each others' ears. Nothing says I love you like calling someone Fatty Bum Bum.

Question: Pet names, love 'em or hate 'em?

    • Hmmm, I never liked pet names. I just find they feel weird to use. Although I'd definitely get a laugh out of "Fatty Bum Bum" haha.

    • I like them. I think insulting nicknames are popular right now because everybody's so timid about really insulting people to their face. When my friend says, "Hey pain in the ass" to me, I know they like me enough to know that I would never get upset at them, and they don't have any anxiety around me. Of course, I also like the overly sweet nicknames, too. They balance each other out.

I trust my friend(s) to call me out in such ways, it seems to happen in greetings much more so than any other setting, "hey, bitch" "Hi, dork" "what up, bastard/slut" whatever.. They are endearing to a degree, and I know the people know me well enough to judge accordingly. Gauging response alerts them to mood....

    • I always used to call my ex-girlfriend 'smelly' as a term of endearment. She knew it wasn't meant with any malice.

At least I hope she did, maybe that's why I'm single again... ;)
