Snoop Dogg says Poly teaches boys how to be strong young men

Long Beach Poly High School has been the alma mater for a number of professional NFL players, but one of its most infamous alumni makes headlines for his music instead of his roots in sports. Hip-hop star Snoop Dogg attended Long Beach Poly as a teenager. He recently sat down with Current TV to talk about what makes Poly so influential for its students.

In this exclusive look inside a studio session with Snoop, he explains that Poly turns young, upstart boys into men. The high school helps them see their potential.

Not only did Poly inspire Snoop to eventually start his own football league for young kids, it helped encourage him in his entertainment career. Coach Keith Thompson joins Snoop's studio session as he records a song for the show. Known to his friends as "Slice," Coach Thompson maintained a career as a DJ whenever he wasn't working at Poly. For Snoop, realizing that it was possible not only to dream bigger than Long Beach but actually achieve without abandoning his hometown was a huge revelation. Now, Snoop continues to take pride in coming from Long Beach, specifically Poly.

"That's what we do…" Snoop says of Poly outside of the studio. "Home of scholars and champions."

The reputation for greatness is one that Snoop and many other Poly alumni want to persist.
