Countdown's nominees for today's three Worst Persons in the World.
The bronze, shared by the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners baseball trade, who on Saturday completed a player trade.
Detroit sent third baseman Francisco Martinez, outfielder Casper Wells, and pitcher Charlie Furbush to Seattle, for pitchers Doug Fister and David Pauley.
The....Furbush-Fister Trade?
Detroit actually owes Seattle a fourth player, to be identified later. It may be minor league pitcher Chance Ruffin.
So that'd make it the Ruffin-Furbush-Fister Trade?
C'mon!
Our runner-up: Congresswoman Michele Bachmann of Minnesota.
Only she could confess to utter hypocrisy and still convince herself that it's somebody else's fault.
The Washington Post reported that a 417-thousand dollar loan Bachmann got for a 5200-square foot house on a golf course had to have come from either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.
The Congresswoman has vowed to shut down the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage programs.
So you'd think maybe she'd deny a charge like that.
You know: exploiting a federal program for her own benefit but then trying to deny it to everybody else.
Nope!
"Now unlike all of you, who I'm sure pay cash for your homes, there are people out there like myself who actually have to go to a bank and get a mortgage. And this is the problem. It's almost impossible to buy a home in this country today without the federal government being involved. Whether it is with the FHA, whether it's with Fannie, whether it's with Freddie, it's almost impossible to buy a home." "What's important is that we do dismantle a number of these federal programs that everyone agrees are clearly out of control."
Well if they're giving loans to people intent on killing them off, maybe they are out of control.
But not as out-of-control as somebody who could stand there with a straight face and insist that of course they got a mortgage from the government because they needed one, but you can't get a mortgage from the government because she says so.
But our winner: Lonesome Rhodes Beck.
This keeps getting worse and worse.
The comparison between the victims in Norway, and the Hitler Youth.
But listen to the second part of this, more than the Hitler part:
"And as the thing started to unfold and then there was a shooting at a political camp, which sounds a little like the Hitler youth or whatever. I mean who does a camp for kids thats all about politics? "...Disturbing."
First we pointed out that "a camp for kids that's all about politics" is still run, to this day, in this country...by the John Birch Society.
Then, it was noted in several quarters that "a camp for kids that's all about politics" is run, this summer, by the Tea Party.
Now, we are apprised, there are 130 Vacation Liberty Schools that their founder Lisa Abler describes as teaching kids the "virtues and morals" of the American founding fathers.
Probably leaving out the ones who owned slaves and stuff.
Anyway, Ms. Abler said that a year ago there was just the one camp in her hometown in Kentucky. But the thing really took off after she joined the 9/12 movement and was able to go on television and promote her "camp for kids that's all about politics"...on Glenn Beck's Show.
Lonesome Rhodes Beck -- he's probably less a hypocrite than he is a victim of severe brain damage -- today's Worst Person In The World.
