British teen lands place in Bolshoi ballet school

16-year-old Natalie Carter is only the fourth British dancer to ever be offered a place at Russia's elite Bolshoi Ballet Acadamy. The Moscow school has a 230-year history of being one of the toughest yet most prestigious dance schools, and the other three Brits who went there never made it past the first year! Carter was invited to try out for her place after she was spotted by a former Bolshoi dancer while she performed at her dance school in Watford.

    • Yet another site mis-reporting the facts. Natalie is the fourth Brit, in fact joint fourth Brit with Daniel Dolan but the other three did not all leave after just a year. Henry Perkins went in 2006, is still there and will be the first ever Brit to graduate from The Bolshoi School when he graduates in June 2010. The first Brit went at 13 and left at 16 when he decided a ballet career was not for him, so lasted more than a year!! A Scottish girl went last year and only wanted to do a finishing year - she had already done 3 years in the UK!! It is a great shame that the media do not research their facts properly before making comments that can offend these young people. They all deserve recognition for what they have achieved in training in Russia. I have asked the author to remove the comment about the other three only lasting a year so hopefully when you read this comment they will have corrected their mistake.
