Naked man on Trafalgar Square plinth sparks moaning

There's good news for clothes-shy tourists everywhere - it's technically not a crime to appear naked in public in central London.

The loophole in public decency laws was most recently, ahem, exposed this Sunday when 24-year-old Justin Holwell stripped and stood around naked for an hour on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square as part of Antony Gormley's One and Other art installation.

A passing ex-detective who copped an eyeful wasn't happy, however. Mark Williams-Thomas said his wife and children were "annoyed and upset". He complained to police but Mr Holwell was not taken off the plinth.

Why? Because there is nothing illegal in nudity, provided no obscenity is committed.

Hopefully WIlliams-Thomas and his family didn't seek refuge in the nearby National Gallery, which overlooks the square and is packed full of artworks featuring nudes, murders and torture.

And if you're interested, you can see video footage of the naked man's performance by clicking the link above. You pervert!
