Less than six months after the then Culture Secretary Andy Burnham blocked attempts to revise Britain's product placement policy for commercial television, new Culture Secretatry Ben Bradshaw will announce next week a subsequent u-turn, potentially opening the doors for product placement to be allowed on British TV shows. Independent broadcasters will then be allowed to take payments for displaying commercial products during shows.

The product placement ban would remain in place on BBC shows.

    • So if I'm watching some Sci-Fi show, then that means they'll have the alien eating a Subway?

I'm happy that the BBC is sticking to its guns and that the kids wont have to suffer all that commercial product placment crap either (its bad enough they advertise life insurance on Nickelodeon :S).

I don't want to be distracted from a good scene, because of some random product placed in clear view; I didnt want a Pepsi before I watched the show, and I still dont want a Pepsi now!

    • I'm going to drink a refreshing glass of ice cold Coca Cola and mull over exactly how I feel about this.

      Christ, that tastes good.

    • So this means that X Factor auditionees might finally be able to make some money. They can wear branded T-Shirts - although not sure how many brands would want to be associated with howlers!
