The top US science university, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (aka MIT), has been rickrolled on a grand scale by its own students.

The very creative students have plastered the first eight notes of Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up' on scaffolding surrounding the Boston research centre's Great Dome.

The prank was dreamed up after students noticed the lines of the scaffolding cover resembled sheet music.

MIT students apparently have quite the reputation for carrying out clever and ambitious pranks, known as "hacks". Back in 2006, they put a fire engine on top of the Great Dome!
