Republicans also held an edge over Democrats in the amount of money available, when counting debts, as both parties set the stage for the 2010 elections, in which more than three dozen competitive House and Senate seats are at stake.

here ya go bansheet
the Democrats want you to fear your own success or potential for success. They do not want you to apply your skills to improving your own life. They wish to do it for you. They want you to fear the future if you make your own decisions and set your own direction in life. Why is this? Simply because once you tap your potential by taking control of your own destiny, you will never fall for the idea that government can do a better job at managing your life and the future of your family better than you manage. You become, in a sense, dangerous to those who make their living off increasing your taxes, promoting class warfare, and limiting your opportunity for self-determination by convincing you that you are a victim of some masterful, yet evil plan for your destruction.
I suggest that you need not be afraid to control your destiny by the grace and gifts given to you by God. If you want to succeed, stop fearing your own ability to create success from the opportunities before you. This is still the greatest country on earth in reference to opportunity for success. Do not be afraid to go back to school, no matter how long you have been away from organized learning. Do not fear the opportunity to expand your knowledge of your profession or begin some entrepreneurial enterprise that would fulfill your life’s dream or ambition. You and I don’t need more government telling us how to live and succeed, we just need more courage to do so.

I really hope the Dems put more people in office next year. I think if that happens republicans will start going so crazy we will be able to watch Glenn Beck's and Rush Limbaugh's heads explode like in the movie Scanners.

Sam and Loon,
The Democrats are no where near the fear mongers that the Republicans are! Not even close. We have the Republicans to thank for ...
1. "Terror alerts", threat level Orange(whateve that means)
2. "Death Panels" that don't exist in the Reform Bill, (but, do exist in the Insurance Corp.s)
3. "Obama wants to take your guns away!"(never on the table)
4. "Iraq has WMDs" passes it to "Saddam's Evil" and "Regime Change" boxes-out so "Stable Democracy" get the rebound. And a Trillion dollars later, Q:WHAT DO WE HAVE? A: FEAR OF ANOTHER FAILED STATE.
5. "Birthers", ..."dang y'all our country is being overtaken by a foreigner!!"Now, it's your turn. Give me your top 5 Democrat fearbased campaigns.

The only fear mongering I remember Dem's doing was calling Bush a nazi/hitler...same thing the republican's are doing to Obama. Neither one are no where near appropriate...although Bush in a sense is responsible for sending thousands of men into a war with a possibility of death, and Obama wants to give millions of unisured/uninsurable a chance at living healthy happy lives.

Well, neither Obama or Bush were as bad as Hitler, but the comparisons of Bush to Hitler have a lot more weight since the Bush family directly profited from the Third Reich.

I am also contemplating sending small donations to the opponents of Harry Reid and Max Baucus. I will then send photo copies of the checks to Harry and Max with a note reading, " start doing what we gave you a majority to do or you will be replaced. "

Donations directly to the repubs and the dems only tell part of the story. I certainly am not inclined to give anything to the dems while they are acting like a herd of cats and failing to produice a consistent message. Instead I have donated to organizations standing firm for the elements of health insurance reform that I believe are necessary to effect real change.

I agree with your comments about Repubs. I just think they equally apply to Dems. Both sides use hate and fear to motivate and neither has a monopoly on the tactic.

Sam and Loon,
The difference in "how" each base is energized must be addressed to fairly shed some light. The Democrats are energized by the proposed changes to the failed policies of the Bush Administration: Torture, wire-tapping, Gitmo, Af-Pak, Iraq, Unemployment, Exploding healthcare costs and a toxic world financial system meltdown. The Republican's have chosen to energize their base with a blatant disregard for the truth. Using disinformation, fear and tapping into hate will cost the Republicans seats in 2010. The Republicans will do anything to win, reguardless of how it affects the average American. There are more rational, level-headed Americans than there are wingnuts. I just hope the Republicans realize that pandering to the fringe is dangerous, before someone gets killed because of dirty politics. - 2 years ago

I expected this. With all the bs and grandstanding in August they were sure to have rallied their base. That said, Democrats are still poised to gain three house seats.

And noted Dem supporters Steven Speilberg, David Geffen, Barbra Streisand, Jerry Seinfeld, Ted Turner, Oprah Winfrey, and George Soros could end the "health care crisis" with strokes of their pens as well. But, like the Repubs in your example, they chose not to.

They don't make as much as you think... if it got into a bidding war, the republicans would come out on top.
There is a guy on Wall Street whose income has 3 commas in it.
Celebrities make 20 mil a year, at best. Don't you think mr. billion dollar income would be more likely to devote 2-3 percent of that in order to avoid having to pay 10% higher taxes? Of course he would.

It seems that Republicans would rather give money to their political party than to sick people. I wonder how many American families could have kept their health insurance coverage last month with that $1.7 million dollars.

It is interesting to consider your comments, Sam. Each party seems to be seeking polarization, thus encouraging more contributions. If the two main parties agenda's were similar, would contributions falter? I suspect that conflict drives contributions, which now explains the nature of conflict politics.
