White House officials David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel tossed a few more lit matches on the fire last weekend. Fox is "not really a news organisation", declared Axelrod in an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos. "Other news organisations like yours ought not to treat them that way."
This has been a boon for leftwing gabbers. MSNBC's Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow, all of whom dedicate themselves to railing against Republicans nightly, owe their careers in a way to Fox's success in carving out a large place for punditry in the cable media landscape. If anything, MSNBC is even more opinionated in a liberal direction than Fox is in a conservative one. Even the news anchors on MSNBC don't bother to conceal their anti-conservative hostilities anymore. David Shuster and Tamron Hall scoffed openly at Rush Limbaugh's NFL ownership bid.
Meanwhile, many liberal observers find the ploy perplexing and counterproductive, as it gives Fox plenty of free publicity and makes the White House appear too prickly. Helen Thomas, the dean of liberal correspondents, says the White House should "stay out of these fights".

OlmecX, I hate to tell you this... but I'm actually not a republican, right-wing, whatever you want to call them, but I do have an opinion about the president sticking his hand in this kind of thing and ALSO your statement: "the simple fact that right wing/wrong wing have to reach out on websites like this hows they are getting very desperate to reel in niave people and fighting a losing battle"
I do believe that the majority of people commenting on this are not right wing and most agree with Obama so is it REALLY the right wing who are so disparate on these websites? I was stating an opinion.
And sorry if my elegant* statement confused you... the contradiction you pointed out is not a contradiction in the least. Saying that media should not be censored and then saying that you don't believe they report anything necessary, that's not a contradiction, it's two separate issues, which can be controlled by yourself not watching but if other people want to watch it, that's fine.
And since when is the word "media" patronizing??! - 2 years ago

I think Obama won. More and more they are talking on other news shows about Fox Noise and its partnership with the repugs. We always had news that was pro one way or another but it was fair in its reporting, people like Cronkite, Huntley, Brinkley etc. Its sad no longer do we have news reporters but mouthpieces, on both sides and reporters more concerned with the color of Paris Hilton's panties than how many of our soldiers are being killed in Bush's illegal war. In the end I hope we the people win and get credible journalist who know the issues and are willing to put their opinions aside and report just the facts.

The administration is afraid of the questions being asked on fox news, this is why they wanna make sure the other networks don't start asking sensible questions.
Fox does have a telephone, the whitehouse can call at anytime to dispute anything... (sound of crickets).
Truth is they CANT answer. only use tactics to try and marginalize that bothersome fox.
Imagine a network asking questions about an administration -- how dare they! - 2 years ago

And also my opinion...Rachel Maddow and Keith Olberman's names don't deserve to be grouped with fox news and the other propaganda stations.
If you are going to name people who are bought off..mention Chris Matthews or Bill Marr. Notice how most of the stations are subliminaly changing everything from Blue to Red...from the backgrounds, to their neckties, to coffe cups. Hmmm..what's that about?

REED ME...
Your eligant statement contradicts itself by saying media cannot be cencored yet the conglomerate Fox News doesn't report on anything that is a necessity to American people...such as local city jobs (when the fact is the population wants to know more than anything). That there is censorship buddy. (By the way, reporting on things that matter is called news). Do we really have to hear who got shot every night? hmmm..
The simple fact that the right wing/wrong wing (whatever) have to reach out on websites like this shows they are getting very desperate to reel in niave people & fighting a losing battle. The word play used by you (i mean media) only works with the mass who lost or never found their cognitive abilities. And for you and majority mass media who try to patronize people such as those on this website is laughable...
And just to get this straight with EVERYONE....
President Obama NEVER said fox news cannot do what they've been doing (which has been lying to americans). He just basically said FOX NEWS IS FULL OF SHIT.
(Ex. for REED ME)...If I didn't like to eat Karl's Sr. Burgers because they put hormones in their beef...I can go and eat in OUT&N becuase they don't. Karl's Sr. can stay open as long as they like to...I just don't eat there. And if someone asked me why I don't eat their I can tell them why I don't. Nature will eventually take its course. Also if wanted to throw a catered party with all natural burgers joints there it is ultimately my choice...some people (most people) are allergic to hormones that alter their food. Karl's Sr. cannot force me to support their food. Its that simple

Well first of all, you guys keep saying that people who watch FOX are uneducated and stupid and don't look up the fact for themselves. That is one of the most ignorant and weak comments that can be made in the left-wing defense.
Secondly, it is actually ILLEGAL for the government to deny FOX entry to any public meeting that is held at the white house if other news sources are allowed to be there. No matter what you think about FOX news, as Americans you should not let that right to freedom of the press be taken away. Of course FOX reports more right-wing stories, just like MSNBC and CNN report more left-wing stories. And sure FOX has opinion based shows, just like MSNBC and CNN have opinion based shows. But that is NOT to say they are not a news station, and the white house should be smarter than to do something like this.
The fact is that since FOX is the main station who challenges and criticizes Obama, he is going to try to shut them down. That is not how this system works, every president in history has been criticized and scorned by certain news stations of the opposite side, but the only one who tried to shut them down was Nixon, and we all see what happened to him.
As Americans, we have to right to watch, read or listen to whatever news station we want and the government should never try to interfere with that. This is a petty battle that the white house should have never started, in my opinion, it makes Obama look weak, like he can't handle the criticism. But the fact is that Obama's ratings have gone DOWN since he has been in office, and since FOX reveals that, they must be wrong?! No, sorry. I am a journalist myself, I watch FOX sometimes but mostly I get my news from the BBC or the most unbiased source I can find. But I take pride in the fact that my country actually has laws that protect the press like this and when Obama is trying to take that away, it's gone too far.
Let the press observe, challenge, and tell the people what is going on, that's their job. And just because a news station has differing opinions than you, it doesn't mean they are wrong and ANYONE who says that MSNBC or CNN are any better than FOX in reporting balanced news is ignorant beyond repair. - 2 years ago

Haha yes, because you are wrong. First the Obama adminastration never said fox was not welcome and will still allow their people to talk to fox. Now second, the Bush adminastration, did try to stop MSNBC, they did set up fake questions during the press-confrence, they did try to blackmail MSNBC for their coverage on the Iraq war, they never gave an interview to the New york times, and repetadly called them out and said they werent a news station. Fox news is critcal on the presidency, and CNN does not have a liberal bias, they are the most moderate of any news station. Fox does lie, its obvious when every other news station calls them out on their lies long before Obama did. This whole debate is ridiculous, the republicans will not regain the presidency. Americans over overwhelmingly distrust them, and this is just going to make it worse in the long run, it was smart for Obama to call them out early, so its known by the time mid-terms come giving the democrats a better edge. Fox will be a curse to the republicans.

Americans needs to stop looking for political leaders in pundits.
Demand journalists give us the news with as little spin as possible and allow us to make our own educated opinions. And the fact that FOX NEWS lost $100 million per year for the first 5 years ($500 M AKA 1/2 BILLION dollars) should be enough to prove that FOX is NOT a business venture but a POLITICAL venture. Any one who denies this is either totally indoctrinated, or part of the deception.

It is my opinion that the White House did right by calling out Fox for what it is. More people should do so, and they should provide evidence proving their point. There is a huge difference between Fox and MSNBC. Fox will happliy and knowingly mislead it's sheeply herd of morons using exaggerations/lies/propaganda. It works because their dumbass fans don't bother with fact-checking, so the result is, for example, you have a bunch of mindless sheep fighting against their own best interest when it comes to health reform, and instead standing firm with the health insurance industry because these fools are stupid enough to believe that Obama wants to kill their grandma... etc, etc, etc.
Fox News is nothing more than the media arm of the Republican party. The Republican party is nothing more than the political arm of corporate America. Fox's sole purpose is to keep people believing it is OK for the rich to take advantage of everyone else. Period.
MSNBC, on the other hand, is similar to Fox ONLY in that they express opinions, not only facts. However, if you do fact checking on what Olbermann/Maddow/Mathews/Shultz report, they come up clean. They are not misleading people. They do express liberal/progressive/Democratic opinions, but they are not fake news like Fox.
Fox is actively stealing stupid people's ability to effectively participate in our democracy. In my opinion, it is treasonous for them to pretend they are real news and then friggen lie to their stupid fans. This fact should be pointed out by as many people as possible to as many people as possible.

This is a perfect example of an "editorial". This is one person's opinion. That doesn't make it news. And it certainly doesn't make it a "Fact". For example, I believe that Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer, playing on people's fears and bigotry to achieve ratings and make money. It's my opinion, but that doesn't neccessarily make it a "fact". It is also, my opinon that the Obama Administration made a mistake calling out Fox News on their bullshit info-tainment programming. I don't think they changed anyone's mind. The left will still watch Maddow and Olbermann and the Right will still watch O'Reilly and Beck.
I watch both. The most glaring difference is that Fox News selectively reports only the stories that fit into their "neo-liberal"/NeoCon world view. Fox only reports Anti-Obama, anti-democrat stories rife with opinionated punditry. And it is left to MSNBC to un-spin Fox's spin, while they similtainiously exercise real journalism skills. They report the news and refute Fox's propaganda with humor and good taste. If you will notice, Fox only refers to MSNBC in their dialogue. You never see clips of Oblermann or Maddow. Fox uses the straw man arguement to demonize them. But, on MSNBC, they use the clips of the Fox talking heads to make their points for them. In a nut shell, MSNBC proves what they say about Fox is true. Fox just wants you to trust what they say about MSNBC is true. They play on people's faith and they lie. Ironic, isn' it. It all comes down to whom you put your faith in and who you "want" to believe.
