Current Free the Wrongly Convicted J_Jammer

Image
His comments; antagonistic. His responses; inflammatory. His postings bordered on mildly off the wall, to just plain bizarre! And yet he provided hours of hilarious entertainment on an increasingly humdrum and uber serious Current.

Hi, I am ChunkyCheezes, founder of the Organization for the Reinstatement of J_Jammer. (O.R.J.J.). I invite you to join me in advocating for the reinstatement and reactivation of the J_Jammer’s account, to help restore colorful commentary and entertainment to the grey pages of Current.

You the members of the Community of Current who indirectly provide the Current staff with paychecks from ad revenue, make the difference.

Please sign this petition at petitionspot. Already over 45 people have signed it and we are only 4 signatures away from reaching our goal!

    • Free him? He's probably still here! He probably just posts under another name. Banning never works in an online atmosphere, not even IP banning.

That being said, good riddance, seriously. J_J was -not- entertaining, he was annoying beyond all hell. He'd nitpick posts for tiny errors and make posters follow logical absolutes that he himself would never follow and them commit fallacy after fallacy if you pointed it out. His favorite was "you can't prove that" and then even if you did he'd say that "it doesn't prove anything." Then he'd insult you but say that you did the same thing so you couldn't say anything about it.

He was the worst kind of biased, someone who is totally convinced by one side but insists that he was objective, even when his bias was shining clearly through.

Have you ever attempted to argue with a creationist? They're ignorant about practically everything, insistent that they know better than even the strongest experts, fervent in their own position even though they can't demonstrate it and arrogant about their own backwards value system.

Aside from being one, JJ was like a creationist on almost every issue.

He really was not cute or interesting or provocative. He was a moron who ALWAYS had to have the last word, even when he was totally wrong.

Yah. I know. He did that.

but in all fairness,.....its like a kid saying---------"SO?! SO?! Make me"!

If you follow that sort of thing overlong,.....well,......you just fell for the "Pull my finger"
      or
"Know what,.............know what,..........?! (Chicken but)" TRAP

of nose led discourse. Hey,........don't do that. It IS funny,....NEVER if your "it".

As a voice on current I very much respect,...I do however submit to you that :
"The definition of BOUNDARIES,...as fair and knowable,......TAKES PRIORITY over pragmatic low maintenance control of unwanted instigators of discord[piss ant troublemakers]. That is my thesis statement.

Its not a question of "Are we SAD you are gone",......

      nudity
      -talking about race,...at all-
      religion
really stupid stupid stupid stupid choices in music people make,....like me (I dont TALK about some thing I favor in this realm)
"rude shit"---if your REALLY NOT attempting to "BE" rude,...to ATTACK some one,...well,...
      how rude can you be?
      gurls

Everyone needs to feel free to "push" on ALL OF THESE, and perhaps be Pushed the F back.

If you cant go into potential "asshole pain in the ass territory",...collective discourse WILL suffer.

    • I would love to hear what comments got him kicked out. Can anyone provide me with such or a way to find them? I always liked reading his posts when I first started using Current, but haven't seen any from him for a while (now I know why).

Also, can't J_Jammer just sign up for an account as J_Jammer2, or do they ban a person based on their IP address or something? (I know most people don't have static IP addresses, but used that as an example for illustration of my point.)

Nothing they could show you would probably even cross your mind as terrible. I bet you millions. You might shake your head or laugh and say, "that's just stupid" , but nothing that would make you be disgusted. And why should that matter? Because there are probably lots of comments on this site that would make you feel disgusted, but none ever were posted by him.

The implication is that jammer sent a "private" message(s) to someone(S) repeatedly. No specifics have been given. Really,....SOMEONE made the final complaint that broke the camels back,....as it were. THEY could always come forward and PROVIDE the specifics. Then we would know. Personally,....I am not holding my breath.

Current basically DENIES,...or at least "plays down" that it was that particular infraction however. It might have been,...but their statements SEEM to dispute that.
Mario- ( in response to my "rating system" concept-

"However, this doesn't solve the issues with private messages and comments, especially when you factor in some of the creative ways people use sock puppets"

If it were JUST non PC topic posts,....you COULD have a rating system for "respondent grade"

In any case---Do you remember what "black jesus" article was the original source of the matter,....THAT I would like to look into.

      http://p.c.ne

      p.s.
I DO respect that YOU have no further interest in going over that particular matter,....but if I could find the SOURCE MATERIAL a discussion could be had over 'just that material',.....NOT jammer as a person as such. That turns into a more enlightening discussion of semantics, logic, trolling,..censorship,....p.c.ness,....crossing the line of "community standards,...etc.

If current want to make a case for "You cant do THIS",....( and THIS IS WHY"),....then we are in fact discussing current policy stricture,....not really "jammer" at all.

I suspect he is a red herring,...........a VERY LOUD and persistent red herring,....
but not REALLY the fish looking to be fried.

"Content" was never the issue here, their behavior and decision to continually ignore community guidelines led to this decision.

So anyway,...they seem to imply some sort of guideline breach,....so I would rather have a community instigated "guideline" discussion of some actual CONTENT.

thanx for the reply. Maybe I can find his comments in my OLD mail,.....if I responded to the "black nativity" post. If not,..........welllll,....so be it. Again thank you sir.

    • this is stupid.......fuck all of them....if they have legitimate arguments then rad bring it on. i love to debate....but if they just want to repeat their selves over and over no matter the article, they should be banned for not contributing.

Ex. i have recently posted that we should boycott "godsnidiots" for using "weak minded" in every post. everyday i read at least one of his/her post that blames "weak minded dope users" for today's problems no matter what the article is about. i only respond to comments that are left w/o weak minded in them.

maybe it is good to have ignorant people (trolls) on here to get everyone pissed off. look at it as motivation to try to change things. we should be thanking them for being trolls. the more people in america get fed up, the more likely things will change.

Cant look to the govt for change.....power to the people.

    • I certainly appreciate the enthusiasm, but the decision regarding J_Jammer is final, regardless of any petition or otherwise.

We don't arbitrarily ban people here on Current. J_Jammer's behavior on the site resulted in several violations of our community guidelines. These violations led to multiple warnings, which in turn resulted in a suspension from the site. Despite all of these actions, they continued to violate our community guidelines and were therefore banned.

Content was never the issue here, their behavior and decision to continually ignore community guidelines led to this decision.

But rather than re-instating him--why not implement some type of filtering or blocking system so that regular users can decide to ignore the trolls or those who are obviously just here to stir up BS?

    • so when BIGDADDYMELVIN, obamaisajoke, or GodsnLiberals get kicked off (if they do) do you really think that we need to petition for their return??

that is extremely unnecessary, they all say the same shit.
against...everyone with their own mind at current, cannabis progress, gay rights, anything that they find to be "liberal".

they are just here to spread their hate against the things we care about. not to contribute, not to understand, not to suggest ideas for progress, just to hate and say that the left, Dems., and liberals all suck and can't do anything for the world.

      They are obvious trolls.

J_Jammers comments were mild compared to their's and they were his actual opinion.
BIGDADDYMELVIN, obamaisajoke post things that they probably don't even believe, only to get a rise out of people. THats its.

There is a big difference between a person that posts their opinion that you disagree with. vs a troll that posts something soley to get you angry.

    • Jammer wasn't even a good troll. His arguments and comments were often odd non sequiturs.

The poor little guy could not write or think his way out of a paper bag. Often it appeared as if his capacity for reasoning was seriously impaired.

Towards the end I just figured he was mentally ill, and ignored his comments.

I hope he gets some help.

    • Just brainstorming,....what IF,.....instead of BANNING outright,....current had a "Black mark" or a "red warning" branded next to the icon of a community-trouble "marked" poster.

( going from a "blue dot" to a "black skull" glyph or some such thing progressively with the accumulations of staff warnings accumulated by that particular poster . )

A little irksome for the poster,....but a "steer clear" mark for those who could MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS about avoiding the posted material. And perhaps the "infraction mark" could be "worked off by good behavior" over time.

A more "It takes a village/peer pressure" approach.

You do realize that the majority of the people come here for entertainment purposes.
I am for the most part an atheist (but for I think nature is spiritual.) Progressive democrat.
I share none of Jammers views. But find his dissident opinions hilarious and entertaining. Why? Because like most members of current I don't come for political purposes. It's the back and forth between Current’s members that keeps myself and everyone else coming back and most of us could care less about the article or political positions.

Don't believe me? Scroll through the top ten news stories, look at the comment section and then look at the huge disconnect from article .

    • So ridiculous, I don't understand it. I do not want him back and can not understand how people give a shit about him. He did not play by the rules. Tough.

He rarely made a post worth reading. His antagonism was based on empty rhetoric just for the sake of being a pain in the ass.

But still, there are these kinds of posts asking to bring him back. It is convenient to forget that there have been many other posters who brought up VALUABLE points and commentary but still got the boot.

If anything, I think the quality of posts have gone down considerably. It is a positive feedback loop of low quality and it is hard not to get sucked in to it sometimes, I admit. The solution to this is difficult but I do not think bringing JJ back is going to help at all but rather once again needlessly frustrate the other users. His frequent harassment, login attempts, and shit talking have shown he can contribute nothing good here anymore.

A lot of people freaked out about JJ and if anything I would prefer more people's accounts getting closed down. I couldn't imagine how many more of these posts we'll get; "bring back GodsNLiberals".. etc etc.

Every time Current bans an account for speech related reason, they become a martyr for freedom of speech advocates and five more angry accounts get created. Better off letting one person say mildly offensive things than have the army of haters that now troll current trying to test the limits.
