The directors of 'The War Room' find their leads by chance

"50 Documentaries to See Before You Die" presents a special interview with the directors of "The War Room," D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus. Despite the connections that helped them get initial access to campaign staff, the two directors came cross their main subjects, George Stephanopoulos and James Carville, accidentally. That theme continued throughout the shoot as Pennebaker and Hegedus spent each day inventing gimmicks to capture footage beyond designated areas to eventually achieve their final product.

Renowned documentarian Morgan Spurlock hosts "50 Documentaries To See Before You Die," a celebration of the most remarkable and moving documentaries released in the past 25 years. It examines how the documentary feature has evolved into an increasingly popular genre, becoming a major box office draw and impacting contemporary American culture in ways never seen before.

"50 Documentaries To See Before You Die" airs Tuesdays at 9/8c throughout August on Current TV.
