What's in Sarah Haskins' Crock Pot? Perhaps something tasty from Hormel or Tyson, or a delicious Manwich meal.

Target Women is a recurring segment on Current TV's weekly television show, infoMania. In each episode of Target Women, Sarah Haskins takes a look at the often-ridiculous way the media reaches out to women.
infoMania is a half-hour satirical news show that airs on Current TV. The show puts a comedic spin on the 24-hour chaos and information overload brought about by the constant bombardment of the media. Hosted by Conor Knighton and co-starring Brett Erlich, Sarah Haskins, Ben Hoffman, and Sergio Cilli, the show airs on Thursdays at 10 pm Eastern and Pacific Times and can be found online at http://current.com/infomania. What I love about this segment is that it not only dissects the "2nd wave feminism", but because women have been an exploited demographic in advertising ever since they were allowed to buy things with money and vote, this really looks at the deeper issues of consumerism and media psychology.
As soon as women were empowered as individuals, advertisers saw them empowered as CONSUMERS. And what do you do with Consumers? Prey on their hopes, fears, and senses of inadequacy.
I love the observations that Sarah makes, interrupting commercials to say exactly what the subtext is screaming at you wordlessly.

When I got old enough to realize my mom was busting her ass to feed her family, I cooked for her. And when she finally mustered the courage to tell me my cooking kinda sucks, we settled for McDonald's. And when my brother got tired of that, he cooked some really great stuff.
I think the whole "only women can feed the family" stereotype can sizzle on the coals of modernity. Also, Sarah Haskins has a new fan. :D

So, let me see if I get this straight: according to these commercials all men are passive-aggressive layabouts who wait for the womenfolk to put food in front of their faces, lest they starve to death, right? And, if left to their own devices (...gasp!), the only foodstuff their caveman-like culinary skills can produce are frozen waffles...from a toaster oven!?
I understand that women are unfairly portrayed in these ads as being solely responsible for feeding the family mob (...even if it is with microwaveable bits of mystery meat and peas), but, at the risk of violating the whole "target women" subject, doesn't this injustice cut both ways?
Isn't it about time we abandon these "Leave It To Beaver" misconceptions?
By the way, keep up the good work Sara; love your stuff!
