Errr...parts of it are funny, parts of it are a little disturbing.
Everything is hilarious and great except for the part where he talks about switching teams to get laid by girls going through heartbreak after he was trusted into the inner circle as a harmless 'gay' man. Not cool. Very predatory and opportunistic.
I have gay friends and I let my girlfriends be close friends with 'gay' guys in the past...but if that's the way they think? Errr...that is totally WTF? Now I'm going to have issues trusting people in the future just because of how this one man explained how he thinks on behalf of all gay men? Gee, thanks TV.
Trust is everything, so say what you are, do what you say and say what you do...don't call yourself gay then totally destroy all the trust that was placed in you by being a wold in queer sheep's clothing. That is weak.
To which I would like to add...since when is Hollywood/what gets put in TV a role model for anything? I thought infoMania was here to mock the insanity?
As far as the part where he's asking the girl about what type of sex she likes or has and the girl gets so offended and picks up the phone to try and escape the nature of the conversation...
EXACTLY.
That's exactly how I feel when someone tells me they are gay needlessly or makes a point of themselves being gay. I could care less. I don't want to know about your sexuality. I don't see people like that. So why do some make such a point of it? Thanks, but I've just fine going through the day without someone reminding me that they like to stick their wiener in another male's arse. WTF?
And, I hate the way this labels all gay people as the same based on their sexuality. WTF? That is one small component of a myriad of characteristics that make up people. Strangely enough, when I interact with people...unless it's one of the rare beautiful girls I'm dating...sex doesn't remotely cross my mind when interacting with them.
So yes, that did an excellent job of demonstrating how offensive it is when people bring up their sex lives or sexuality inappropriately.
That said, there are lots of cool gay guys in the world who just do their own little gay thing without trying to hook-up with your g/f when she's vulnerable or hit on guys that aren't gay. I only wish all gay men were that way.
Other than that, yes, this is quite hilarious.

My friend posted this on my fb wall saying it reminded her of me cuz I always say I want all my friends to be gay men, lol! It makes me sad to say I have no gbf :( And on Degrassi, Marco did not switch teams...and sexuality is starting to become less defined so people don't even have to pick and stick to a team.

I love it.
The "New" GBF reminds me of a terrific essay by Kyle Stevens -- "What a Difference a Gay Makes" -- that considers the role of gay characters in 1990s romantic comedies. In those films, gay characters help their heterosexual pals achieve relationship satisfaction and arrive at the altar (and hence legitimation, therefore stabilizing the social role of heterosexual marriage in general) despite exclusion from such satisfaction and legitimation themselves. Wit and wisdom apparently compensate for such exclusions.
The essay is in the 2009 collection _Falling in Love Again: Romantic Comedy in Contemporary Cinema (Abbott and Jermyn eds).

This is so great - thanks for not falling into the "eunuch" trap (as mentioned before) by keeping the language honest, fresh and forward!
Jack Bauer totally needs some cock, bro.
infoMania was sorely lacking a queer voice, so I'm happy this is on. One question though, why resort to transphobia in the opening credits as the punchline? Or is it ridiculous because no self-respecting tranny would have that much stubble?
Otherwise, I join the chorus of keeping this a regular feature!

What on earth is this millionaire matchmaker trash? Holy god.
Thanks for confirming my beliefs that 1) I'm NOT the only person who's infuriated by the effete gay male minstrel-type character and 2) using "gay" as a noun means you are the douchiest of douches.
Now I wait to see whether you or Haskins gets to tackle the topic of lesbians sexying it up for the benefit of male audiences, because I'm pretty sure that trope's at least as prominent as the GBF. Rock on!

Thank you so much for this! It was very funny and entertaining, while still eye opening and educational (yes, educational lol). I've been saying for years that this kind of exposure is exactly what we DON'T need. The whole "switching teams is a part of being gay" idea disgusts me, and has ever since the first instance I saw of it on tv and in movies. Why is it that in order to have a gay character on tv, they have to kiss, fuck, suck, lick, "fall in love with" women. Really?? aren't gay men writing shit like "desperate housewives" or "ugly betty"? We can thank them for some gay kids staying in the closet, commiting sucide, and dare I say, prop 8??

Just wanted to join the comment-chorus to demand this become a regular infomania feature.
I've always called the GBF character "The Gay Male Eunuch," since the gays in question are denied any actual sexuality, despite sometimes being cartoonishly hypersexual.
Also, what must be one of the first instances of this phenomenon occurs in Hemmingway's The Sun Also Rises, where the heroine Brett Ashley makes her first entrance in the novel surrounded by preening, effeminate queens (to whom the butch narrator Jake reacts with nausea and barely-restrained violence). Brett then comments, "And when one's with the crowd I'm with, one can drink in such safety, too." Meaning, I guess, that the fags aren't going to date-rape her. Plus ça change...

This was absolutely refreshing. I never stopped to think about how much this is so true. There are so many shows now that have someone with a Gay best friend.
I love it. The more this is brought out and shared with the world, the more people get to understand gay people, and accept them more openly. I appreciated the fresh funny look at the Gay issue in our society. Bryan did a superb job describing this. You go Bryan. Keep up the good work! - 3 years ago

Do I find this funny and entertaining? Yes. That being said... I feel like I was duped. I've been working with this dude for three months now and we've been talking about straight guy stuff (fights, boobs) and then he throws this on me. I even peed with the guy! I will keep watching, but in the future, I wish people could be more honest about who they are.

Dude -
Unless the guy peed in your mouth, I think you guys can still be just pals.
He doesn't need to wear a sign or anything warning you that he is gay. And gay guys can still like a lot of stuff that straight guys like, including sports, beer, and boobs. They just don't want to have sex with the woman that the boobs belong to. They want to have sex with the quarterback in the football game you're watching together. :)
