The show puts a comedic spin on the 24-hour chaos and information overload brought about by the constant bombardment of the media. Hosted by Conor Knighton and co-starring Brett Erlich, Sarah Haskins, Ben Hoffman, Bryan Safi and Sergio Cilli, the show airs on Thursdays at 10 pm Eastern and Pacific Times and can be found online at http://current.com/infomania/ or on Current TV. thank you sarah haskins for doing this! its so true all these ridiculous ads target little girls for back-to-school-fashion giving them all these crazy ideas that if they buy those pants or that dress (or really get mommy and daddy to) or whatever they will be the teacher's favorite, they will be smart, they will be popular and loved by all the other kids...i remember being fooled by them when i was a little kid, its sick they target children that young i mean dang some of those girls are like what, 7? when they target little boys for fashion its almost always like this "hey get your mom to buy this because your mom should buy this so she can be a good mom" you know? so really they pretty much just target females. the ones where they show little boys fashions and outfits are in female motherly voices like "hey! get these for your kids from our store before our amazing special sale ends! don't wait until the first school bell rings! hurry in (so you're a good mom)!" Ugh. And the irony is i remember my dad bought my brother and i our clothes. Sexism hurts both males and females of all ages and sarah hasksins, thank you for pointing this out and the media's part in it. To anyone who says "well those are just commercials" about any of the commercials sarah parodies: please think about it. How many commercials and ads of some kind or another are we forced to see every single day? And think about the effect they have on the subconscious or even sometimes the conscious of young kids. "I wanna be like that when i grow up!" its pretty scary when you think of it. i mean most kids won't blatantly say that but somewhere in their heads they are getting all these messages about what a man is supposed to be like what a woman is supposed to be like and what stuff they should buy...i wonder where they get it....could it be, at least partially, media?

Hmmm... I don't know. I'm on the fence on this one. Sure the things in these commercials aren't important and are materialistic but what else is there for girls? Boys get video games, action figures and water guns but girls are supposed to have nothing? Everything for girls like dolls and fashion is seen as bad. So tell me what are they supposed to do without this stuff? Read all day? Read all day while their little brothers get to have fun? It's a double standard if you ask me.

I don't think that it's neccessarily the products themselves that are seen as bad, so much as the way their advertised to children.
Also, there are tons of dolls that aren't all bratz-style freaky, and you can look good without looking trashy, so I don't think that anyone can say that all products for girls is bad.
On the other hand, can't girls play with video games too? And some people (me included) would find a day of reading quite fun. Personally, I want to see more products aimed at everyone instead of saying 'oh, this products only for ladies', y'know. TTYLOTI :P - 2 years ago

Girls can play with those things and have all that fun girls can use those products for "boys" too they aren't just for boys. Reading can be fun. But anyway, the point she is trying to make is not that dolls or in this case fashion is of the devil like you know evil and bad and terrible inherently or all the time or even at all. The point she is trying to make is that the way fashion is marketed to little girls like during "back to school" time - well it is marketed to boys too as is shown - but so dispraportiantely so much so so so so insanely much to girls, these little girls as young as like 7 years old in a very disturbing way. Just look at how those little girls act to the teacher in that one commercial and how the teacher is smiling and thinks its so great when thats NOT what school classes, a good school which teaches you know things like math and stuff um not fashion in geesh elementary school....its disturbing these kids are acting so bratty and when kids see these commercials they are going to think "hmmmm mommy daddy buy me those clothes so my teacher will give me good grades" or something which is ridiculous and little kids really do think crazy stuff like that i remember thinking stuff like that when i was that little and saw those back-to-school fashion commericals, like "oh cool i can have so much fun wearing THAT! and therefore school is going to be AWESOME and i will be the most popular kid in school everybody will love me all the adults and all the kids HEY DAD MOM BUY ME THIS!" like seriously by putting popular stars like Vanessa Hogdens or however her name is pronounced, Avril Lavine, and Miley Cyrus of that stupid Hannah Montanna show in ads with their own product lines for teenagers and children (all girls of course) its kind of messed up because little kids maybe younger than 7 even watch that Hannah Montanna show and those movies on Disney chanel Vanessa was in and listen to those music videos avril and well all of those girls are in and want to be them so it makes them think hmmmm clothes = the answer to being a superstar that everyone loves! of course, its not true, and i rememeber going to school and being so disappointed that nothing was as cool as those clothes in the commercials made it all seem and i was not loved because of my blingatude or whatever by teachers thats for sure and there was so much pressure with the girls based on fashion because of commercials and tv and stuff...we all kind of felt bad about ourselves and we were like 9. the boys didn't care my brother was like wohoooo i get to wear whatever because you know clothes are marketed to little boys only in the sense that its really marketed to their parents especially of course their moms (more sexism there) to go buy them something to wear from whatever store the commercial is saying to buy from. when i went to a private school it was one where the philosophy included "dont let your kids watch tv" it was totally different kids did wear all kinds of things and of course kids like fashion plenty of boys too but it was NOT a big deal and there was NO pressure and nobody had any false idea that fashion would make you number one student in terms of popularity and teacher's pet like these dumb ads show. also some of the clothes the ads show...welll those clothes are just really inappropriate for kids i mean dang those little girls were acting way too much like "yeah im sexy" and they are like what 8? thats just sad.

Mikail_Blyth:
speaking full sentences is more common than you'd think. Not all has gone to hell quite yet, seeing that there are more people complaining about the sate of culture, in the EIA (everything in anagrams) generation, than there are actually are participating in it.
Although I must say, hearing a college professor say "No writing these papers with abbreviations and short hand. This is a formal college paper, not an informal text message to your friend. I can't stress this enough, you will lose points if you turn in a paper written like that." Is a very scary indicator as to how bad the problem is.
Yet, like I said before, It's not everybody. It just seems that way cause that's the demographic they are targeting. In reality, more people don't like this turn to informal anagrams as a means of communication then those who support it.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing "hot" about it. I find it disturbing mostly. It's like this: I'm a grown man, so I don't need to be looking at that, and young males don't need to learn how to objectify girls at that or any age. Not to mention it's teaching these little girls the wrong way to look at beauty/attractiveness, which goes into us passing along humanities blatant unhappiness with ourselves, but that's a whole other discussion for another time.

Sarah you sexy thing,
Once again you've evicerated the shallow, manipulative, trashy way corporate America tries to shove unmitigated tripe and nonsense down our throats. What's sad is that these kids buy into the bullshit that's spit at them 24/7.They are probably the most marketed generation of children since the inception of advertising. Joe Stalin is probably kicking himself in the ass for wasting all his time on brainwashing when all he need to do was hire a couple of souless and cynical advertising agencies to get people to think the way he wanted them to. - 2 years ago

blanch:
Uniforms are worse.
First there's all the fuss about who had her skirt shortened the most, who bought a tie at what brand (oh yes, there are brands specifically for uniforms) and which brand has the vest with the most dark shade of magenta.
Then teachers start to stand guard at the gates of the school because the tailoring and "individualizing" of the uniforms gets way out of control, and since there's a limit to how much you can pick on about uniforms, people obsess about hair and earrings and fucking nametags on the jackets.
Worst of all, since people get only a few chances every year to actually DRESS for school, on the occasions when those chances come it's REALLY a fashion show. Like on field trips or school summer camps. It gets ridiculously serious. It's almost an equivalent to having three or four proms a school year.
The best solution would be just dropping out of school for good. There is no way to escape the chaos. - 2 years ago
