"Rappers are still no talent hacks."
I can understand where you get that idea, because mainstream rap makes the whole genre look bad, but if you have an open mind you'll see it's not true.
Artists like Nas, Rahman Jamaal, Louis Logic, Wise Intelligent, Black Thought and Immortal Technique are all good examples of emcees (not "rappers") who consistently craft socially conscious hip hop with lyrics far more painstakingly written than songwriters in any other genre.
I'm a former emcee. Not gonna lie, I got some critical acclaim and love from the underground, but I was never commercially successful. And that's because mindless anthems about guns, drugs and money populate the airwaves and sell the most records. And not only is it against my morals to glorify that stuff, truthfully it's boring.
But I see this as a failure of youth culture, and not hip hop. Does anyone remember when Eminem was an uplifting lyricist with a positive message? Of course you don't -- 'cause that album only sold a few hundred copies, versus the millions he sold when he changed his approach to lyrics about hate, drugs and killing women.
These guys aren't stupid. They make what sells.
As for this No Homo vid, I just about lost it from laughing so hard. Never heard of this guy Bryan before, but he seems to realize he doesn't even need to make these guys look more ridiculous just went with the flow, which was perfect.
But on the timeline...I remember noticing cats using this phrase constantly around '03 or '04, so it's not quite "new."
And you gotta remember, this is an attitude ingrained in hip hop culture, which has its roots in the "battles" that started as DJ contests and became MC contests, which itself can be traced back to "the dozens." Masculinity is so cartoonish and idealized in this culture, that attacking a man's masculinity successfully is the ultimate diss. And in black culture, as with many others, the antithesis of masculinity is being gay.
That's not an excuse, it's just an acknowledgment of why so many rappers are obsessed with qualifying everything with "No Homo." There's a lot of progress people have to make, and a lot of hypocrisy that needs to be addressed, before we can move forward.

the examples you used are incorrectly used to prove your point. 1st: Biggie was talking about a girl. 2nd: Lil Wayne is suspect (Gay). The truth to the matter is, use the real men in hip hop who make it clear where they stand in their sexuality. Besides, why are homo's or gay's (which ever is politically correct to use) so angry because of men make it clear where he stands in his sexuality? No different from a homosexual being accused of being heterosexual. News flash, no matter what homosexuals think or say, THE ENTIRE WORLD CAN'T BE GAY. so don't get made because people make a stand where they are..now a days you have to because you never know who is or who isn't. I wish all of them would come out of the closet instead of being cowards.

I'm surprised I never really heard this term before, as a bunch of the people around me said that they've known about it, but it definitely speaks volumes about how some people are so insecure and self conscious of their masculinity that they have to have a stupid ass disclaimer like "no homo" just to say "I love you man" or even to threaten somebody.
