    • OK, since I was told that I just MISSED the satire and the sarcasm, I gave it another look.

      Still don't see it.

      Yay! I'm straight!

"carrying a gay card gives us the God given right to be experts on women's fashon"
Don't gays kind of stereotype themselves?

Seriously, do you have anything to complain about when you get "stereotyped" when this is SO typical of gays?
      please

That's not what I said and has nothing to do with my post. Try reading it again and see if you can understand it. It has to do with Bryan's high-minded statement "Bryan Safi explores gay issues and stereotypes as they are portrayed by the clueless media."

Sound nifty. And then he goes on to reconfirm just about EVERY gay stereotype there is.

I've watched 4 or 5 of his programs. Sense of humor? Sure, he's funny.

Champion to respond to and correct "stereotypes" about gays? Not hardly.

He's an entertainer. Just because he acts a certain way on camera, in doesn't mean he acts like that in real life. And they do come right out and say infomania is a satirical show.
      sat·ire
         /ˈsætaɪər/ Show Spelled[sat-ahyuhr] –noun
1.the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.
2.a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule.
3.a literary genre comprising such compositions.

      Yep... That sounds about right.

To be clear; i have no issue with gays who want to talk fashion. I don't care.
What I saw, in the promotion of the spot was a statement about countering stereotypes that was then directly contradicted by the contents of the little show.
This spot in NO WAY countered stereotypes: it perpetuated them.

I didn't see any "satire" here. Are you saying that his actual intent was to RIDICULE the stereotypes of fashion loving gays? Because that WAS NOT what I saw.

well, you're right. that's NOT what I saw. It's not what my wife got out of it either.

mind you, neither of us came away hating Brian, that's not my point. I just didn't see anything here that lived up to the promotional statement that he was countering stereotypes. He seemed to be revelling in them.

I don't see how you can miss the sarcasm in Brian saying gay men are fashion predators and then clubbing a coworker. He's showing how ridiculous that stereotype is via reductio ad absurdum. I dare say he doesn't actually believe that gay men emerge from the womb knowing French fashion terms like haute couture and chignon--that was sarcasm.

Look: "11 months out of the year, Hollywood prefers its men to stay in the closet, but during award season, gay men come out and rule the airways." Implicit in that statement is a critique of the way that the catty, fey fashion critic role is one of the few acceptable media representations of gay men, which is the backdrop of the segment and an excuse to run some of the funnier/more cringeworthy clips engaging that cliche.

Example: Seacrest carefully distancing himself from having any sort of knowledge of ~color names~ because that's, like, so ghey~~. If that sort of behavior reminds you of how the boys acted when you were in middle school, it's probably funny to you. There was a series of clips of sad, sad attempts at catty humor about bagel hair etc. etc... they were used to illustrate how lame the whole fashion critic thing is, let's say.

Like the rest of Infomania, it's all about running funny clips and joking about them, so it doesn't read like a neat thesis with its supporting arguments all written out for you, but if you already believe that gay men are a diverse group of multifaceted human beings and that the only visible stereotypes in the media are restrictive and reductive, you will see where he's coming from.

Three people gasping and shrieking over MARIAH CAREY in VALENTINO NYAARHARHARHA *gasp* *HUGE INHALE* *falls off chair* is a little ridiculous. Fancy technology just for drawing arrows over video feed to point at dresses is a little ridiculous. Randomly whipping out references to the trapezius muscles while talking about dresses sounds silly. All about the laughs.

That was wayyy too much typing but hopefully the obvious sarcasm is a little more obvious now?
