MGMT, Quit Making Weird Videos: Music Intervention

It takes a real friend to call an intervention to help you realize you might have a problem. This also applies to music. Except Sergio is not your friend but he still wants you to stop. Here's Sergio's Music Intervention.
infoMania is a half-hour satirical news show that airs on Current TV. The show puts a comedic spin on the 24-hour chaos and information overload brought about by the constant bombardment of the media. Hosted by Conor Knighton and co-starring Brett Erlich, Erin Gibson, Ben Hoffman, Bryan Safi and Sergio Cilli, the show airs on Thursdays at 10/9c on Current TV.

How do you make extremely catchy music yet keep an enigmatic persona? Make weird music videos.

MGMT should make a video where they're on a set and they stand there and play music with lights behind them. AW YEAH!

Well technically, it's the band's choice to go artistic with their music videos...

The interventions are only good when the artists/targets are annoying and TRUELY deserve an intervention. Asking MGNT to stop being so weird...that's more of a mild critism.
Plus, Sergio pretty much spent 70% of the segment telling them they're awesome. Where's the fun in that?

Maybe just to show how he can make fun of things he likes?. . . My friend got mad at me for mocking the way Buddy Holly sings. I like Buddy Holly, but why can't I critique/make light of the way he sings?

That one-word "Williamsburg" aside produced an involuntary, loud chortle and accompanying clap.

thank you Sergio! I'm a long time fan of MGMT and even went to a concert of theirs, and I've enjoyed the creative uniqueness of all their older videos, but the music video for Congratulations definitely was a little more 'out there' than what I can swallow....but hey, that's what makes them great!

You can have an intervention for Regina Spektor. She's awesome.
Maybe . . . she has all this non-singing in her music (not that I don't like that). Like the glottal stops in Fidelity. She also makes dolphin sounds in Folding Chair.
Also, she's only released three albums since she joined Sire Records in 2004. It's not like she doesn't have the material, she has like 100's of unreleased songs.
Does she need an intervention? Probably not. Will it be funny? The power is YOUUURS!

I say turn up the weirdness! As long as the weirdness doesn't go into H.R. Giger level or Bosch people will always dig it.

You know, I'm beginning to think Sergio's the one that needs an intervention these days. The douchey putdowns and mudslings were cool for obvious targets, but now he's just trying too hard. Maybe someone can put together one for him?

I guess I'd be pissed if he intervened someone I really liked (I don't think he has yet.) Why can't he have interventions with a bands he likes. It's his goddam show.

MGMT is the LAST band that needed an intervention. Why should they have to conform to the mainstream, boring pop culture, predictable music videos? Yeah, that's what I mainly wanted to know.

Everyone's a conformist right??? It's like human nature these days,or that peer pressure thing ya hear everyone always talking about!!! It's all about the labeling boxes !!! Can't put a label on it then what is it right???
Yeah...I think I'll go listen to some industrial music now & let the mass media destroy it's self!!!

I guess I just dig on their music videos. I think they're nice psychedelic supplements to their music. Plus, I admit to being an MGMT fangirl.

I like bizarre vids like those of MGMT and the Flaming Lips. No, they're not total eye candy, but take music to a different level of surrealism.

Where else is there to see music videos??? TV doesn't play them!!! Everything on TV these days just seems to be looped so it just plays over & over in a block of like 10 shows or something!!! Really!!! If you know a TV station STILL playing music ,do tell!!!
