Taking Aim at Hunting Shows

Conor_Knighton
Conor Knighton's investigation reveals that TV hunting shows evidently believe children are their future; teach them well (how to shoot a rifle) and let them lead the way (so you're not hit by crossfire). In order to reach the next generation of hunters, Conor discovers that networks such as Versus, the Sportsman Channel, the Outdoor Channel and the Pursuit Channel have turned to an unlikely approach: rap music. Whether it's "Turkey Thugs" or "Huntin' The World Southern Style," this is your chance to see some quality firearm-themed free styling.

infoMania is a half-hour satirical news show that airs on Current TV, now shot live in front of a studio audience. The show puts a comedic spin on the 24-hour chaos and information overload brought about by the constant bombardment of the media. Hosted by Conor Knighton and co-starring Brett Erlich, Erin Gibson, Ben Hoffman, Bryan Safi and Sergio Cilli, the show airs on Thursdays at 11/10c on Current TV.

Those of us who hunt do far more for wildlife conservation than any of the environmental groups, and animal rights groups who only file an endless stream of lawsuits to stop LEGAL hunting. If you paid attention this past election season-three more states added constitutional amendments to protect hunting and fishing rights.More have amendments planned, all due to the actions of the exteme environmental groups, and the animal rights groups, and all their lawsuits.

For the person who commented about the "seal culling" no hunter supports those types of activities, unless they are native hunters, hunting for food, using the methods that their people have used for thousands of years,in those cases,it is their right to hunt as their ancestors did.

What do hunters do for conservation?
A lot. The sale of hunting licenses, tags, and stamps is the primary source of funding for most state wildlife conservation efforts.

By respecting seasons and limits, purchasing all required licences, and paying federal excise taxes on hunting equipment and ammunition, individual hunters make a big contribution towards ensuring the future of many species of wildlife and habitat for the future. By paying the Federal excise tax on hunting equipment, hunters are contributing hundreds of millions of dollars for conservation programs that benefit many wildlife species, both hunted and non- hunted.

Each year, nearly $200 million in hunters' federal excise taxes are distributed to State agencies to support wildlife management programs, the purchase of lands open to hunters, and hunter education and safety classes. Proceeds from the Federal Duck Stamp, a required purchase for migratory waterfowl hunters, have purchased more than five million acres of habitat for the refuge system (2005 statistics only); lands that support waterfowl and many other wildlife species, and are usually open to hunting.

Local hunting clubs and national conservation organizations work to protect the future of wildlife by setting aside thousands of acres of habitat and speaking up for conservation in our national and state capitals.

    • If it wasn't for us hunters buying licenses, tags, and the Federal Duck hunting permit,or "Duck stamp" there would not be any wildlife refuges in the U.S.-all the funds that made the system of wildlife refuges possible came from hunters purchasing the duck stamp.
The extra 11% tax we pay on firearms ammunition, and outdoor gear all goes to wildlife conservation-( the Pittman-Robertson act) Hunting organisations like Ducks Unlimited,Pheasants Forever,Whitetails Unlimited,The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and many other national, state and local hunting organisations, have done far,far more for wildlife conservation than ANY of the so-called nature lover groups,or any of the "animal rights" groups. Same is true with all of the fishing organisations-like Trout Unlimited.

The guys and ladies that prefer to bowhunt also pay extra taxes on their equipment-which all goes toward wildlife conservation efforts.

    • Conor, can you warn us next time a dude's gonna run up and shoot a boar? That was really, really horrible to witness. I guess it's probably unlikely to happen again on infomania. But some warning would have been nice. :(
