Sarah Palin's Alaska, Real Housewives Hypnotized, Speidi's Special Day

Conor_Knighton
Host Conor Knighton is thankful that the world of media reliably spews out the baffling and bizarre, because otherwise this segment would be three-plus minutes of dead air. Instead there's Sarah Palin reaching out to the Fourth Estate, Mario Lopez reaching around a fake belly for some sexy time, and Conor reaching for his DVR's delete button whenever the "Real Housewives" franchise comes on. Also: A Conor lookalike! Trust us, it's eerie.

infoMania is a half-hour satirical news show that airs on Current TV, now shot live in front of a studio audience. The show puts a comedic spin on the 24-hour chaos and information overload brought about by the constant bombardment of the media. Hosted by Conor Knighton and co-starring Brett Erlich, Erin Gibson, Ben Hoffman, Bryan Safi and Sergio Cilli, the show airs on Thursdays at 11/10c on Current TV.

    • I really hate the laughter, it sounds forced, it's distracting and cheapens the show. It reminds me of the laughter on Sports Soup, in your face and unnatural. It's not the same as the laughter from a live audience of the Colbert Report, it feels like a handful of people who are involved in the production of the show, fake laughing in anticipation of the jokes they know are coming, in order to create a "live" laugh track. Honestly, I don't like to be one of "those" commenters, but it's annoying enough that I may stop watching the Infomania clips.

i second the motion, info mania was defiantly a lot better without the fake laugh.

    • Can't believe they completely ignored the fact that us, the viewers, have unanimously decided that the live audience is terrible. They made it all a joke and moved on. I get it Infomania; I'm thrilled to see that it seems to make you guys happier that people are laughing at your jokes directly, but we've always been laughing at home. I hope you knew that.

And now I'm not, just because you've ignored us. That's not even funny.

    • Can you please address why the shows are no longer shown in one continuous format and if/when they will be returned to that format? I've been watching this show for a long time, but now it is un-watchable. I don't want to sit through a 15-30 minute ad just to watch a 2 minute segment and then have to hunt around for the next segment. I just want to queue it up and sit back and enjoy the show.

This whole thing smacks of some wrong-headed notion that people don't have the attention span for a whole show. Well, the show was never very long to begin with and always left me wanting more. Now it's just a pain in the ass. I don't have cable, and watching online is the only way for me to see the show. Even if you're not going to change it back, could you at least give us an explanation?

    • OK. So you're destroying my favorite weekly show (apart from the BBC 'Have I got News for You)... by that stupid background laughter. Thanks guys. What the hell are you thinking?

    • holy shit, that 14 foot fence might block Sarah's view of Russia...serious credibility damage there, that might hurt her candidacy.

I am not a hater. I am actually complimenting infoMania. It is a great show and I think the canned laughter or live audience cheapens it. It can stand well on its own.

It gives it an infomercial feel.

Interesting. Do you feel that an audience ruins The Daily Show, Colbert, Tosh.0, Letterman, Conan, The Soup, Bill Maher, etc.? I'm actually curious. It just seems like a totally standard thing for a comedy show.

I think audiences are a distraction. I really did enjoy infoMania more without the audience because it seemed more credible and hipper. Without the audience made infoMania stand apart. Now it is just another comedy news show.

I thought about all of those shows before you asked. The shows you mention began with that formula and it is acceptable. To me infoMania was a better format and I am sorry to see that they have discarded it.

It is the standard thing but standard does not always make it a good thing.
