    • I liked Black Swan but I did not love it. The problem with this film is that it takes itself too seriously. Labeled as an erotic thriller, Black Swan gets an A+ for its eroticism but as a thriller, I thought it was weak. Just like Natalie Portman's character Nina, the movie never "let's go" into a full blown horror and/or suspense thriller. To me, knowing the ending in advance is not what ruined it for me. It's the un-climactic way we get there that disappoints.

Here are two suggestions for how Black Swan could have been a more satisfying thriller:

      1. Taking a suspense approach: Go farther with the head games that Mila Kunis' character Lilly is playing on Nina. More head games, more back and forth with these two characters.

      2. Taking a horror approach: During the performance of Swan Lake, Nina should actually morph into a six-foot tall, killer Black Swan and then swoop down into the audience biting off audience members' heads before taking her own life.

    • This movie is incredibly intense and amazing. I do not think the plot is given away, although in retrospect I can see the parallels with Swan Lake. Not for light entertainment however. I agree this has to be Natalie Portman's best role. The guy playing the ballet director got the role of his life in my opinion. The final segment showing the premiere of the ballet is totally amazing.

    • Fox mentions how Kunis has an 'Angelina Jolie' quality about her. An interesting parallel, since Kunis and Jolie both played the model Gia Scarangi in the HBO film GIA. (Kunis is the Younger Gia carving her name into the receptionist's desk.)

Re: ellerobinson: I haven't seen Black Swan yet, but if the plot is more detailed than Erlich's description, is it possible he gave it a Rotten rating on a mistaken pretense?

    • I definitely agree with this review, and would highly suggest seeing this movie whether you are into mind thrillers or dance moves. I do disagree however that the plot was given away by the description of Swan Lake, the actual plot is more detailed.
