Why I'll Never Be Miss America: Modern Lady

Erin_Gibson
Erin Gibson has come to terms with the fact that she'll never be Miss America, and not just because this "Modern Lady" fears beauty contests might be demeaning to women. (But mostly to the losers, right, Erin?) Rather, a careful viewing of last week's Miss America Pageant taught Erin that the real factors holding her back are that she has a normal-sounding name, lacks a bizarre talent and has too much hard-earned life experience. Wise words, certainly, but will Erin forget them all when she catches a glimpse of a glistening faux-diamond tiara? Hey, you'll just have to watch.

For good reason, no woman has ever had the balls, moxie or delusion to claim the title of "the world's premiere basic cable expert on lady stuff."

Until now.

Meet Erin Gibson. She's freakishly tall, sort of smart, and willing to do just about anything to get a bemused chuckle.

Her segment, Modern Lady, on infoMania, is dedicated to reporting and commenting on what's happening on Planet Lady.*

*The asterisk next to "Planet Lady" is actually a typo.

    • why do they still have these pageants? does anyone actually watch these women trying to make themselves feel pretty & accepted? here's an idea, stop over paying for clothes and highlights and dancing shitty to micheal jackson songs and be something more than just a pretty face that makes little girls want to be anorexic.

    • Noone needs to be Miss America, because noone would miss ANY
Miss America 10 years from now. But 10 years from now everyone
who has any fundamental sense of human values would sorely miss
any human, male or female who has a genuinely spontaneous, witty
sense of humor. Those kinds of people are too few and far in between
in my humble opinion. Back in the super 60s decade, Lee Meriwether
won a beauty contest that likely made her Miss America. She advocated
for health care policies for folks of really advanced age the last time
I saw her on TV. But if you asked her what her favorite TV series roles
were back then, say Time Tunnel or Catwoman on the Batman TV
series, she'd probably still laugh and say Batman was Purrrrfect.

As Jackie Gleason used to say in the role of Ralph Cramden, you've
got to hit those high notes to be happy, make something memorable.
Holy Hula Hoops, Batman !!! It's the Ghost Whisperer donning a grass
skirt in Hawaii !!! Adam West as Batman: " Yes Robin, boy wonder,
where there's smoke there's fire. Hmmmm. I bet Catwoman, the
Penguin, Joker, and Riddler are up to there usual nefarious tricks,
and aren't far away. We'd better contact Alfred to make sure the
Bat Cave is prepped, and ready to go go " Robin: " Uhm, don't you
mean simply " go " Batman ??? Batman: " No, unless we've taken
some time tunnel to the 21st Century, go go dancers are still in "
