This is about changing the way we think. Political correcteyness is all the rage. With homosexuality finally pushing its way out the closet, there are going to be words and phrases that will have to be put into the closet.
This type of change also happened with the words Retard, Tard, and Down Syndrome. Those things have been weeded out and we no longer say these things.
Tim Hardaway made an unfortunate comment about the real way he feels. However, he does not go around beating up gay people, so he does have some humanity in him.
Sports is generally anti gay, simply because, you hope inwardly, that the guy laying on top of you, or blocking you in the post (with their groin) is not secretly memorizing the feeling of your buttocks and heading home later that night to finish things off...
there is enough to worry about in sports then having to wonder if someone is enjoying your body a little too much. That being said, you will find that once off the court and out of the shower room, there a plenty of athletes who simply don't care if your gay, or they themselves happen to be gay; be they man or woman.
But lets face it, sports does take a little bit of masculinity, even for the women. Lets also face it, most sports players would be shocked if the news caster of this article turned out to be an NFL player, or some speedy soccer player.
However, if our heroic news caster turned out to be an figure skater or gymnast, I bet it would not raise an eyebrow. I have gotten much better at not using the word "gay" to represent someone who is slow or dumb, I no say "that's so Wanda Sykes". when referring to something that is dumb.
Yeah... I'll burn in hell for that one.

I suppose it would be OK if someone used the N-word to Kobe in a fit of anger? I mean, it's just a word right? What a dick.
