A true Hollywood farewell for infoMania

Ben_Hoffman
infoMania has always been about you, the viewer, and we wanted our final episode to be no different. So we sent Ben Hoffman to the streets of Hollywood to let the public weigh in on the demise of infoMania. Naturally, everyone we met was crushed, especially once Ben explained what the heck infoMania is. Or should that be, "what infoMania was"? Sorry, it's tough to type through the tears.

"infoMania" is a weekly half-hour satirical show that puts a comedic spin on the 24/7 media overload. Picture the ultimate office water-cooler, only with funnier co-workers who willingly stay up late imbibing all forms of media so you don't have to. Hosted by Brett Erlich and co-starring Sergio Cilli, Erin Gibson, Ben Hoffman and Bryan Safi, "infoMania" airs on Fridays at 9/8c on Current TV.

    • Wow, everything that was good about CurrentTV is no more? Thank you for making my decision not to get cable easier. CurrentTV was the only reason I was willing to blow hard-earned money on something I didn't actually need. Viewer created content is what the channel was about - the beauty of allowing people talk about what is important rather than force what's considered important down their throat is now completely gone. You suck something terrible. I sincerely hope this channel fails miserably.

    • Everything that made current interesting, engaging and entertaining is now gone. No more viewer created content, pods, super news and info mania. Vanguard would be ok if they didn't rerun the hell out of it. Whitewashed, homogenized and generic...you've turned my spicy meatball into a puddle of gruel.

    • wtf. this makes me VERY angry. You don't do cool podcasts. You don't have infomania. You don't have Supernews. What exactly is left? I adore Vanguard but really. What the hell is going on.

    • I totally agree with the comment below. Why is infomania ending?!!! I am disappointed that Current is trying to be another MSNBC and abandoning what made it originally great. Can't they still keep some of the beloved shows on this network. I loved the Modern Lady segment and well the entire show for that matter. Please bring it back! Are they gonna get rid of Vanguard too? Just cause Keith Olbermann came onto the network doesn't mean they should let go of what brought people to love the network in the first place.

    • Now that they're pulling the greatest news show EVER, they should re-name this network "No Longer Current."

(And if the show is really over, then WHY THE HECK THEY STILL SHOWING THE TAG LINE @ THE END?" Publicity stunt? *crosses fingers)

    • God, I miss when you guys weren't all politics. The Rotten Tomatoes Show was the reason I discovered Current. Now, that and pretty much everything else that I loved about it is gone. It just feels like one more news channel.

    • WTF? And here I was hoping you'd give Infomania a full hour instead of the measly 30 minutes allotted to it. There were just too many very talented & funny & smart people to cram into a half hour slot. Give these people jobs! Give them each his or her OWN show, and Current might get a boost in the ratings.

    • A loss for Current. Again, destroying all that was good/popular and alienating a portion of your audience to make way for the unknown in my view isn't a good strategy. So is Vanguard next to make way for more politics? Not everyone is into the farce called American politics 24/7. You will lose viewers with this overkill.

    • I looked forward to this show every week, and now it's gone? Besides infomania current tv only has 4 other shows... and they HAD to take out (in my opinion) the best one? The world really is coming to an end.

    • what next are they cancel next, vanguard? I also remember how Current TV use to be and all the good shows they had. I was pissed when they moved infomania to friday that it might get canceled. most times they put shows they want to kill on friday which sucks because i loved this show and rotten tomatoes (and vanguard which thankfully is still on)!!!

    • I loved Current back in its "beginnings". I loved how when you viewed your tv's guide, Current displayed the numerous stories they had always introduced by (to name a few) Jael de Pardo, Jason Silva, Nzinga Blake, Max Lugavere, etc... of course adding to rotten tomatoes, infomania, vanguard and supernews. Or how about when during breaks, they made us aware of the death toll in iraq and the actuality of such things of importance. And that Burning Man coverage =]. That was the current i adored.

Infomania was clearly the survivor of all of that, and i'll seriously miss it. It's honestly the only thing i watched besides vanguard repeats and newer ones. Infomania is definitely what kept me entertained and laughing... and I'm going to miss it.

    • Here's an important question: How are they gonna keep making Viral VIdeo Film School. Is he going to have to break away from the network and make it into a webcast or something?

    • Another good show being thrown away. Rotten Tomatoes, First Bar Karma, then this. I think you guys are screwing up Current tv.
How much Olbermann can a human stand..sheesh!
Well have fun guys, gonna go see what else is out there, somewhere else.

    • Ok, I'm not gonna front... I'm a self-proclaimed Olbermann sheep/fangirl... but this is really sad. I may not have been a regular viewer before his arrival, but I took comfort in knowing that Current existed in it's former state, dedicated to VC2, like how I remember it to be when it began. The few episodes of infoMania I've seen, I've loved, and regret I didn't catch more of. Can there really be not enough room/airtime/budget for both? I'm gracious Keith has found a new home, "but at what cost!!??" Take it from the democrats... It's never smart to exile your base. I truly hope the end of infoMania was a mutual decision.

    • first Rotten Tomatoes and now infoMania. I love Keith Olbermann, but I have to say that I now no I will no longer miss not having Current TV. then again, we should have seen this coming with all the changes made to the website here.

    • Very sad! I am really going to miss this show. There is too much serious "news" and way too much gossip with quasi-famous people on television. Infomania was the bright spot of the week that allowed viewers to take thirty minutes and laugh at what happens on television. I am sure Ben, Sergio, and the rest of the cast will move on to bigger and better. Still deep down I along with many viewers will miss our weekly show.

      RIP Infomania

    • this is pretty sad...
i personally think that current started to go downhill once supernews was canceled. then the cancellation of rotten tomatoes (possably the worst thing they could have done.) made it so that infomania was the last of my favorite shows on current. now with infomania gone current is left with shows like olberman, vanguard and doctors without borders, witch is all well and good if you like shows like that but to me i would rather have infomania, supernews and rotten tomatoes making brand new episodes that are funny and witty rather than the new stuff.

    • What a shame! I can't believe everything that made Current TV, Current TV, is being cancelled.

It just a matter of time before it starts airing "Jersey Shore 2."

    • How dare they take off one of the best shows on Current? WTF??? Current has really gone downhill since the new year. Are you trying to become a all news channel to compete with cnn? All of the fun, snarky, informative shows are all gone and replaced by DRY, boring shows and reruns of stuff nobody else wants to play. I am with stopped, I will no longer be watching current unless they change back to the way it was!
Current tv, you have destroyed one of the best channels on cable and ignored the "viewer created" mantra of the former current. Your poor choices just lost more than half your current viewers that will not be replaced. You are headed down a downward spiral and will eventually have to sell your once loved channel! Good luck without us.

    • Only took me one James Thurber reading to decide Olbermann was not for me. What is the plan for the rest of us? Anything left or on the table? And please, I think everyone who wanted to see Point Break has seen it. Get something else!

    • I finally subscribed to cable after 2 years without it. I was looking forward to seeing Current TV again, with its cutting edge short vids, and user-generated content. Vanguard was fabulous!gen
But now, no user content, no short vids, no Infomania, and all Olberman, all the time. I'm not a hipster, but really? I was regretting my cable investment until I found Halogen. Hope you all figure yourselves out soon.

    • This is really unfortunate :(

Infomania used to be such a funny show, but Current has just let it die a slow death. Just because I'm a liberal doesn't mean I can't appreciate snarky humor!!

    • Current. This show was a huge part of your identity with me. Please do not replace it with more Olbermann. What is the vision for the future state of CurrentTV? We here on this end are feeling outcast a bit at a time.
