“Say Anything” host Joy Behar and guests Robert Zimmerman, democratic strategist, CBS News “Sunday Morning” contributor Nancy Giles and “Viewpoint” host John Fugelsang discuss their reactions to the news that Al Jazeera has purchased Current TV. Fugelsang says he’s glad that Current was sold to Al Jazeera because it does “real news” but Zimmerman is skeptical. “The jury is still out on whether or not it’s a real news organization,” Zimmerman says, claiming that the fact that it’s a state-run organization “should make everyone very apprehensive and suspicious.”
Fugelsang counters that Al Jazeera should be applauded for covering stories where American news organizations fear to tread, pointing out their decision to release tapes of Osama bin Laden after 9/11.
“Condoleezza Rice lied and said that there were coded messages to terrorists in this tape … If someone attacked my country and killed 3,000 people, I would want to hear the tape of that rat bastard explaining what his rationale behind it was to justify my loathing of him. So I think it’s really unfair to have that accusation thrown at [Al Jazeera],” says Fugelsang.
