    • im abit of a geek at times, seems to work fine for me, we seem to make awesome friends and partners since i guess when we get the girl we try harder to keep them?

alot of guys treat girls like a accesory then a person. a stereotypical geek will do the opposite :)
      viva la geek!

    • Everyone has a little bit of geek in them. If you think you don't, you're probably what most would call 'boring'. It's the people who try to hide their silly side that come off as the dorkiest of all=)

    • I'm glad stereotyping is alive and kicking. I'm glad we can still hold on to the labels they give us, and we adopt, in highschool. I wish we could, just once, leave all those extra labels behind, and remember who we are, not what society dictates us to be. Fall in love for the sake of love, not for anything else.

    • Simplest reason on there:

They are intelligent: Geeks are often well read and well educated, so they are smart and can carry on an intelligent conversation.

    • How about dating someone because of their personality instead of public perception? Dating someone because they fit a social stereotype is still shallow, no matter if that person is defined as a geek, goth, prep, or jock.

    • By this rationale it seems the PC guy gets the honey while the Mac guy goes home to iPorn, however the Linux guy hangs at the Playboy mansion.

    • Yeah right! Geeks as secret knights in shining armor is just a modern fairy tale. They are just as prone to being jerks as "regular" people are. I have five good reasons not to date geeks:

      1. They like to feel intellectually superior to everyone. Since smarts are all geeks have, they often flaunt this to show their worth. Just like a bodybuilder flexes his muscles. If you happen to make the mistake of challenging this complex of theirs, there's a good chance your doting geek will morth into a pretentious asshole. Push it and you may even get a geek meltdown.

      2. They're a bit childish. Many geeks opt to play RPGs or video games instead of cultivating a social life. This tends to keep them preserved in a state of childhood in many ways. Many aren't practiced in dealing with people on a mature level and quite a few still believe mommy should pick up after them. And if you're lucky, that new mommy could be you!

      3. They are sexually immature. Geeks' adolescence isn't spent chasing members of the opposite sex, but more likely in a dark celler becoming a level 3 warlock or inventing something revolutionary. Either way, they still have hang ups to work through. You might be reminded of a conversation in your ninth grade locker room when they mention the opposite sex.

      4. They tend to have crazy moms. Remember mommy? Well, there seems a high correlation between reclusive, introverted children and batshit crazy, over-protective moms. Their mom will have no reservations embroiling herself in any relationship issues between you and your geek. And your geek won't stop her.

      5. They are just as insensitive as anyone else. It may even be because they got picked on in high school that they are more judgemental now; to compensate for feelings of low worth. This background of being "picked on" works both ways, y'know. And aside from that, they're still human.

Now I don't hate geeks and I know a lot of geeks don't fit this description, but a surprising portion do. I myself prefer the closet geek: they tend to be sexually and emotionally mature thanks to an active social life, modest about their huge IQ, and they still nerd out over their new computer monitor. Which is hot.

    • Every comment attached to this thread is the most transparent,"let's all hold hands" "love me 'cause I'm different" bunch of crap that I have read in several days.

p.s. the couple in the picture look fairly frickin' hip to me.

    • I like geek girls. Why? Because they aren't high-maintenance, they aren't afraid to hide their faults, and they aren't afraid of displaying their passions despite whether or not it goes along with mainstream thinking.

    • How are those people geeks?
This either proves I'm so much of a geek I don't even notice fellow geeks when I see one, or I'm totally out of touch with reality.

    • It's interesting to see 94 stories on current pertaining to freedom of Speech and 243 stories pertaining to censorship yet current.com takes down anything that they find offensive. Example: I had a post on this thread that I was getting positive feedback from and Current currently has it under review. Guess there is no freedom of speech anywhere anymore.

      my edit:

"We've taken over bitches! Everything that we were made fun of for when we were younger is now mainstream. Gadgets are taking over our lives. Comic books are being turned into movies. It's a great day.........Horrible article though. Most of the article is about using someone for what they can do and turning them into an emotional crutch. And I have no clue what you're talking about not needing to be athletic around geeks. I've been involved in all types of sports since I was little.

[End of my comment edited due to thin skinned users and currents pro-censorship stance. Don't say anything that is on your mind, if someone doesn't like it they will report you and your comment will be taken down. Sorry to the guy who replied and also got his comment stricken. Thank you Current for reminding me where my place is.]"

I like you keithponder. You're a good guy. I just find it hypocritical of them to take issue to something I said when the person who more then likely reported me spends his days attacking people with no true input other then things like "geeks kill their wives". But because no one reports him he's allowed to be a moron because 98% of the people on this site believe in freedom of speech. So thats current.coms standard. Freedom of speech as long as no one whines back to you. Nice. Whatever, moving on.........

Everyone on Current is welcome to express their opinion, as long as they don't do so in a way that violates our community standards.

Attacking another users for a different opinion is not appropriate, and in that situation, we will ask that you edit your comment.

Also, a quick note--if you edit a comment as we ask, please respond to the email we sent to let us know so we can make it visible again. We try to keep an eye on everything, but sending us a quick email will ensure that your comment is back up as quickly as possible.

    • Geeks and nerds are far more interesting than so-called "normal" people. And besides, a fellow geek would be far more likely to understand my random obsessions with Lost and Battlestar Galactica...right? (You know what, don't answer that.)

    • For one thing a bad hat and a poor fashion choice doesn't make you a geek. I am a geek!! Computer nerd,
Classical music loving, non-drinking non smoking corny humor lovin' geek! I think education is of supreme importance and I go to all of my kids games. I even wear tape on my glasses from time to time and build tons of science projects with my kids. However, I dress well! Give the poor guy some clothes to wear!

    • I find myself to be a 'connaisseur' of dating geeky boys and while most of the article is true, they are also very jealous. Think about it, they probably never got a girl in high school, so when they get you/sex they won't let go. Oh and being friendly to ex-boyfriends is totally out of the question.

mook(n)ster_07, your ignorance blinds you! I'm happily married with a Really beautiful woman that loves me like nothing in this world.

The issue, is that you are far from being a nerd and if you think your Gadgets friend is a Nerd, you are so wrong...

Lots of them "do" reside in basements, and there is a reason why they are nerds, and that is because they didn't make it in the football, soccer, baseball OR chess team. Your comment has no substance and you lack of reality.

I hope you really like the example. When not in front of the camera he licks his finger after scratching his butt.

Furries are the dork answer for dorks, you know what I mean? "Hey, I might be a complete dork, playing D&D at 3am online with cold pizza and Jolt Cola in my mom's basement, but at least I'm not a furry!"

God I love being a geek.
