Men may not be able to blame alcohol for underage sex

Drinking alcohol does not affect a man’s ability to guess whether a young girl is under the age of consent, according to a study with implications for cases of underage sex.

Men accused of having unlawful sex with a girl between the ages of 13 and 16 can attempt to claim on “reasonable grounds” that they were not aware that the girl was underage.
