JD Salinger files lawsuit against 'JD California'

JD Salinger is known for being a sort of recluse - but now he's back in the public eye. Salinger is trying to prevent the publication of a novel that puts his 'Catcher In The Rye' hero in old age. '60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye' was written by an author who calls himself JD California.

This sounds terrible. No one could do justice to Holden like Salinger did.

    • It's almost a travesty that someone should even try. 'Catcher in the Rye' was perfect for it's time and has stood up really well, why ruin it with an exploitative sequel written by someone who, no matter how talented, could never fully understand the character or his motivations.

Then of course there's the intellectual property issue. I really hope this gets blocked or it's just going to open the door for hacks to try their hand at reinventing classic literature. It grinds my gears, I tell ya.
